For example, #GD2’s brother #GS2 is 25 years old. If I send a birthday or Christmas gift, I receive a thank you note. If I send greetings on New Year’s Day or Independence Day, I’ll receive a response. Other than that, he doesn’t communicate. And because he’s well able to communicate if he chooses, his non-communication means that I’m only rarely willing anymore to make an effort outside of certain special days.

lnxw48a1I told #GD2 about her cousin #GS3’s asteroid livestream viewing experience. She was happy for him. I tell you, I really love that she’s not jealous over the attention her cousin gets. Honestly, I do try to give every one of the grandkids a similar high level of attention, but (1) life gets in the way, (2) as they get older and gain their own communications devices, relationship is a two-way street, (3) until that point, it is dependent on parental effort as much as it is on grandparent effort.
Escaping from the customer VM into the management backplane and then going from there into random customers’ VMs is probably not something that should be possible, but in the rare occasion that an exploit is found, the company’s internal monitoring should have picked it up.

lnxw48a1Thinking about it, Win3.x and Win9x didn’t have effective multi-user permissions systems or preemptive multitasking. (I think they used cooperative mutlitasking.) I hope that transit agency doesn’t allow those systems to have contact (even indirectly) with the Internet 🛜. It could be really bad if $STATE_OWNED_RANSOMWARE_GANG was to gain a foothold.
@geniusmusing I barely even remember Win3.x / Windows for Workgroups … updating drivers on such an old OS will likely mean compiling them, or even patching and then compiling.
>The result of your work is high-quality display software whose interfaces to the vehicle control system function smoothly. > >The driver's cab display system on high-speed and regional trains shows the driver the most important technical data in real time. >Project Description > > Updating drivers > Maintenance of the old system

lnxw48a1I got to simulwatch the Virtual Telescope's stream of asteroid "2024 BJ" passing near Earth with #GS3. It is an irregularly shaped rock, about 35 meters across and the view was from a ground telescope in #Italy. Therefore, the view was a white dot that got brighter or dimmer (even briefly disappeared) depending on which side was facing us.
The soon to be five year old had a good time, but wasn't able to articulate what he saw.
@clacke At least FR is seven hours later, not earlier. If I'm working in #SoCal and I send e-mail to someone in Washington DC, three hours ahead, I need to send it before noon my time or I may miss the person.
https://youtu.be/2UYF7WTVvTI I ran across this song last night when I should have been asleep. It went on repeat for close to an hour. Then I listened to a few other songs, culminating in the “I’m not gonna pee pee my bed tonight” song.
(I think that if you tried to make your child sing this in public today, social services would probably show up and take the child away. Mad props to the youngster for his poise. Maybe because he’s so young. By school age, this would be humiliating.)
But this is the same doctor who recommended not getting the #COVID-19 shots until they’ve been out at least five years, so maybe he got his license out of a Cracker Jack box.
I don’t think they were ever popular in the US. But it sounds like they were popular in Germany at least. The 1980s? Definitely 1990s, so maybe some years before and after also.
I had found the Kelly Family a few years before and listened to several of their songs, but once the “Pee Pee” song hit US television, a YouTube search would only bring up zillions of poorly recompressed uploads of this song.
That was a few years ago and now finally, it is possible to find their music again.

lnxw48a1It is a little frustrating to hear this from a distance, because it makes me want to jump in and manage the situation, starting with “do all the tests, so that we know we’re using the right treatments” and “be aggressive about treatment, don’t lolligag and wind up causing them to need hospitalization”.
