@Azure@USBhump I mind that about 50% of my tax dollars goes to financing murder in the middle East while infrastructure around me crumbles and homeless camps and piles of trash spring up everywhere
RT @DiEM_25 Another #whistleblower has just been arrested! This time in #Spain. We must all stand up for whistleblowers. They should be thanked for exposing criminal tax-dodging corporations, not jailed! #Falciani#FreeFalciani
Ah, the dulcet tones of Americans ranting about taxes... ☺️
In the rest of the civilised world the government does them for us. All we have to do is look at a page once a year and say "yup, that looks right".
In Britain we get given a code that dictates how much tax we pay each month. (While we do have to declare additional income, we don't have to file a pre-filled tax return unless we've earned £2500+ outside the normal day job)
It's 2018 and some people seem to be unblisfully unaware of common freaking mastodon features, so here we go.
Don't wanna continue being a part of a conversation? Don't: all-caps the convo telling them to untag you DO: PRESS THE MUTE CONVERSATION BUTTON
Saying controversial things that make others super uncomfortable due to panic or the like? Don't: Yell at admins for asking you to CW, then complain about getting banned like it's a surprise DO: CW the toots
We care about you but if you're so distressed that you don't have the will to CW toots or respond to others without cussing them out, for the sake of your friendships and your sanity, please take a break from social media.
If you don't "have the spoons to CW" then I'm gonna assume that your posts are at least partially motivated by a desire for attention. You probably shouldn't be on social media if you are in a bad place mentally. Even the fediverse fucks people up sometimes.
I mind that I have to /do/ taxes because a bunch of companies lobbied to ban the IRS and financial institutions from just collating the data they already had on me and crunching the numbers.
And then some different ones managed to get themselves made gatekeepers to electronic filing.
