As a "committed Democrat," I have been selected to participate in the Official 2018 Democratic Party Survey! . . . I wonder if there'll be a section to say I only signed up so I could vote Bernie in the primaries? -

@Azure I don't know if it's really a 'panic' or a dog-whistle, but that's an interesting idea. There is this vibe of "I thought I knew you, but you were the enemy all along" getting pushed pretty hard on the left.

Fun fact: "inflammable" came first, from Latin "inflammare", "to set on fire".
After that came "nonflammable".
"Flammable" was a back-formation from "non-flammable".
Ever since people have been confused.

The thing that most people don't know about space missions is that things are pretty much always going wrong and whether your mission is a success or not depends almost entirely on how well your contingency plans and backup systems are set up.
Like, there's a reason the Mars rovers, for example, lasted well past expected lifetime and that's because they were designed with the assumption of the universe going "fuck THESE rovers in particular".

apparently jordan peterson's "lobster hierarchy" is based on a study of lobster behavior when a large number are kept in a confined space, eg the exact opposite of how lobsters live in the wild. It's basically a repeat of the "Alpha Wolf" myth from the 40s. This guy can't even be wrong in an original way and people think hes smart???

My position is the same as alternative medicine:
"You know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine."
Same with biohacking, pretty much.

It's become enough of a trend that I should just state: Accounts from which I see nothing but patreon advertisements are considered spam and will be sandboxed. You can still follow them if you wish yourself, but they will not appear on the public or network timelines. -

Just a little promo: https://shigusegubu.club is an open Pleroma instance, feel free to join, we barely moderate stuff and rules are pretty simple and straightforward: don't do anything illegal. Also we don't block anyone, and won't block anyone, ever, we federate with everyone - mastodon, gnu social, you name it. -

friends don't let friends use uTorrent
uTorrent hasn't been good since 2.2.1 and that version is ancient and is not gonna get patched
there are a decent amount of other BitTorrent clients out there:
- qBittorrent (this is the one I use)
- Deluge
- Transmission
- rtorrent -

there are some salty stubborn folks on r/trackers (and probably elsewhere) who are extremely salty about having to move clients to one that is maintained and not some ancient version of uTorrent
these people sound like those folks still loudly complaining on tech forums everywhere that they are gonna never upgrade from using Windows XP

NWS Offices are a big silly mess that don't really make sense. Their warning areas just span state lines and are just so jagged.
