We are flesh and blood – makes us feel more human
On Facebook and Twitter we get a anti-human illusion of human experience.

Isolationism as a benefit – self importance.

while #GNU and the #FSF certainly has given us many useful things the overall strategy has kind of failed. just look at https://savannah.gnu.org for example. it all just doesn't gain enough traction to really make a difference. nobody uses the GNU OS. is there even any piece of recent GNU software that is filling more than just a niche?

You are wriggling so as not to address what am saying :)
To be clear am saying we have (largely) been miss-sold privacy (as an absolute) by #encryptionists for the last 20 years or so , were it should have been sold as obscurity/mudding the waters etc.
This has lead to damaged to many #openweb projects by making them hard to use and incomprehensible.
We need to be clear.

hi fediverse.
I'm trying to make some rss bots less intrusive, mainly by having them toot multiple posts in one toot (to not flood the timeline).long url's are making this very difficult - if they get truncated before tooting, they'll break.
is there a url shortener that is ethically acceptable among masto users?

I think it's really interesting to follow Dave Winer (inventor of RSS) on Twitter - he's very concerned about the current push towards HTTPS.
He's afraid raising the secrity bar will make the web less open and less accessible. And he's right; adding technical requirements favours the entrenched big players with big budgets.
Dave also fears for the historic web, in the (unlikely?) event that browser vendors actually deprecate HTTP.
I don't agree with everything he says, but the POV has value.

https://www.businessinsider.de/people-increased-facebook-usage-after-cambridge-analytica-scandal-2018-5?r=UK&IR=T Sadly true https://campaign.openworlds.info sighnups peeked then declined. Use is steady but not growing. The level of apathy and negativerty is a trubbaling look at "suicide culture" we live in. #failbook and the #dotcons in general are not healthy for a humanistic eological society. We do need more than a tiny minoraty of #fashernistas to step away. Diversaty is healthy.
