If you start a new business, run it democratically, don't have employees, or don't start it.

The assumption, "Everyone will just accept omnipresent recognition, because you can pay for avocado toast easy and get into corporate arcologies" is shaky, given the swing toward distrust of tech giants, and dwindling ranks of Millenials/Gen-Z with mortgage-paying non-temp jobs in skyscrapers.

@jk Yeah, no worries, it's hard to keep track of all of who and what is doing good/bad things nowadays. I get mixed up often as well. I released my game with Itch (Neofeud) initially and have been with the community for a little over a year. I'm also a professional game developer, so I'm more familiar with this stuff. I do honestly hope they get a little more recognition, cause they really deserve it.

@noelle @jk Yeah, leafo (Itch's creator AFIK) actually became a target of right-wing attack-bombardment, along with Itch itself, after responding to Steam's official stance in June that "we won't curate anything". And Leafo did not, has not caved on that.

If you dislike toxic gamer culture, (and toxic capitalist culture, for that matter) as it stands, Itch.io is one of the very few forces directly combating it.

@jk @sophia has been releasing games with them longer than I have, maybe she can weigh in on how good or not good Itch.io is.

@jk They're the only game distribution platform I know of that actively curates hate, allows the developers to set the revenue split, actually cares about the community, and isn't just about making as much money as they can. I'm not sure where you heard Itch is bad, but that's too bad that you're spreading it.

@freakazoid @kaniini @sandbag_attitude There is something to neo-mercantilism as well. I'd say neo-feudalism and neo-mercantilism are synergistic, two facets of the same dark crystal.

If mercantilism is belief in commerce, & Amazon for example is about total centralization of all commerce (every product ever brought to you by Prime!) then we are approaching the eschaton of mercantilism, resulting in the neo-feudal power center.
