I was once completely content.
I had a #Thinkpad with #Slackware running #Xfce.
The themeing was perfect, light grey, stylish. Semi-transparent panel.
It was running Terminator, Gmrun runbox (very smooth), Firefox, Claws, Thunar, Gajim, Abiword, podcasts through Newsbeuter, media playback with Gnome-mplayer.
Everything... just... worked.
Since then we have been reinventing every... single... wheel.

@drwho I used to love Gajim, fit in well with my Xfce desktop, but my Jabber connections faded away, so I have not used it for a long time.
Project seems to be alive, though, on Gajim.org.
