@solderpunk @kensanata @pet84rik @tomasino The real danger is drawing too much electricity on the circuit, especially with kitchen appliances. I can't use my toaster oven and my microwave oven at the same time or else it will flip the circuit breaker. You can design it to draw more, but you have to decide whether that 30 seconds you gain is worth the additional amperage, heat, and long term power draw.

@xmanmonk If any are between 18-22, tell them to come to Millsaps College when they get out
Y'know, as long as they didn't kill anyone or something

I am bitter, and angry, and sick, and tired. For many reasons.
And now I have an intense craving for a McDonald's cheeseburger. I will assume these things are related.
Resist.

@solderpunk @pet84rik @kensanata @tomasino Yep. It's also far less power efficient because most of the energy gets diverted elsewhere and wasted. I'm sure if I had an 1100 watt kettle then it would boil the water *much* faster. I really don't understand why the majority of Americans don't at *least* own and use a stovetop kettle.

@solderpunk @pet84rik @kensanata @tomasino It takes around 2 minutes in an 1100 watt microwave, but keep in mind it's heated completely differently. Microwaving water is also a crappy way to heat it bc it also removes a lot of the oxygen inside and, as a result, tastes different.
I usually just use some kind of container with a handle (like a soup cup). It's still as hot as Florida but the handle is fine. Plastic is better than ceramic bc it doesn't hold heat as long -

@kensanata @pet84rik @solderpunk @tomasino I love the fact that your kettle uses roughly half the power draw of my air conditioner.
I like to think that there are times in Europe where the power grid can't handle the amount of people making tea at the same time -

@pet84rik @solderpunk @kensanata @tomasino 2200 watts would wreck a US socket (if it didn't blow the fuse first). That's 110V and 20A, which is the max load for a single fuse (if not more).
Unless you're plugging it in to the washer/dryer plug, that is.
I have a Japanese kettle which is 900W (designed for a 100v socket). It takes a minute or two to get boiling. Still worlds faster than a stovetop kettle.
