Yeah, so, while waiting to leave, I was wondering if I had dressed too heavily, given the heat.

From the very moment the blast of cold air hit me at the entry doors, though, my initial impulse was confirmed: Airports tend to be way over air conditioned.

Hey #lazyweb, is there any way of using #IMAP or #POP with GMail that doesn't involve password authentication settings that will have the Googs freaking out every time you switch network or turn on a VPN on your phone? The GMail web interface is terrible for churning through mailing lists so in practice I leave the lists that go to my GMail unread.

Oof... Indiana University is going to start requiring two factor authentication for sshing onto the compute clusters.

Don't get me wrong, 2fa is good. I just do not like duo (which is the client they chose). It's frequently caused errors when my cell signal or WiFi signal is low where it says the request has timed out in the app but the ldap server is still waiting for a response to its push.

I get in situations often where I have enough service to check my email but not enough to Auth email

Open source's nature is to fade into the background and go unnoticed except by those whose work touches it directly. It is the plankton of computing. We all breathe, but few of us stop to think about where the oxygen is coming from.

Custimizability is the essence of computing.

No matter how much we might try to make them uniform, each computing device is unique in some way.

Software only becomes 'enterprise grade' if, when its behavior is described to an outsider flatly and precisely, the outsider assumes the description is some kind of elaborate joke.

I succeeded in #writing almost 600 words tonight using nothing but ed(1), the same line editor Ken Thompson used to write the original Unix.

    One sentence per line.
A blank line in between paragraphs.
No going back to edit previous lines.

We call ed(1) the standard Unix editor, but it might be better to call it the standard text composer.

Full disclosure, I'm looking at the Wikipedia article to help try to wrap my head around this one.

I see 'diluent' is used in medicine compounding, so "active ingredient" might work, there.

except 'solute' and 'solvent' more have the sense that there is more solvent than solute, whereas 'diluent' might be the minor component.

    So maybe just 'substance'?
