@codythedragonrude Not that hard, try invidio.us or on Linux FreeTube (NewPipe on android). Otherwise e.g. peertube.

@hund Yeah, that's a question I was wondering about too before...
I found https://mastovue.glitch.me/ which site is at least good for a quick view or search.

@Azure That's like the raspberry-vanilla tee which became the focus of a jury trial. It had nothing to do neither with raspberry nor with vanilla. After all it was ruled it may not be called raspberry-vanilla tee.

@cameron Unfortunately not yet. I had two Irex Iliads, but they have a built-in eink flaw. It was the early days of the technology. They break after a while and both devices are broken now. Otherwise they were really great, easy on the eyes.

@cameron That's a cool device! First time I hear about Alphasmart Neo - had not seen something like this before. I'd say they could have done better with marketing as I do like tech stuff and did hear about e.g. the Light Phone but never saw a line about Alphasmart.
I do agree about non-backlit devices. I've been looking for some kind of a linux ebook reader and the best I found so far was the remarkable eink device.

If I'm not mistaken Ubuntu Touch also runs on that device (and PostmarketOS as well).

Otherwise I like sl very much :D

@cameron I guess it won't be news to anyone, but at least there is already a "half" eink phone available from yota. I might be mistaken but there is only a very niche market for eink phones.

@HexDSL I'm not sure amazon would make better phones in this respect... amazon is a data hamster as well. They register every click, every purchase and store it for ever and a day.

@Linux Cool! "James Hughes had a very interesting name for the new Linux brand called "Tux". He abbreviated it as (T)orvalds (U)ni(X). Everyone eventually adopted Tux as the penguin name but some were still confused with the actual meaning of Tux. They assumed Tux was short for tuxedo since the penguin body had an imagery reason to it."

@WPalant That was an interesting read, thank you for posting. Someone wonders whether these projects have any kind of quality control... They should, but still... I tend to disagree though on the don't use vpn comment. More like if you use one, use a good one.

@algernon Portable binary segfaults? Interesting, might be worth mentioning on their "Issues" site. I used their .deb packages and so far it's been working fine. It's striking that without the g* parts the browser seems to respond quicker in general.

@Linux I like what I have read about Necun OS so far. They have the right attitude.
I don't get it though why aren't they just start tailor PostmarketOS to their hardware if they are talking about the mainline kernel anyway?
Joining forces might be helpful in the FOSS world too.

@gka @kensp Closed source bios, checking for updates regularly. Basically this is a built-in backdoor to the machine (and not only on this laptop but on every other device having the same feature). This is why projects like Libreboot or Coreboot are so important.

@hund As you like to tinker I'd mention Olimex Teres. DIY :D Otherwise the suggested second hand Lenovos are mostly good choices (especially if you can flash Coreboot/Libreboot).
