@cwebber sure, but today there is no standardized way for an administrator on one instance to say "hey, there might be an issue here."

While if things were to change to where there were no admins or moderators, that channel still may be useful for, for instance software agents.

I don't think of it as much as "sever-level design" as much as a side channel communication mechanism that isn't per-account. Basically a channel with different set of valid message types.

@cwebber I was looking at the AP spec and noticing there wasn't much there for server level stuff (i.e. a specified place to request moderation). It seems like something that a 2.0 could address which would probably help.

Last 40 hrs in #Lerna project provided an opportunity to reconsider an important philosophical & policy question: "How should software freedom activists engage with other political causes through their projects?" Read @bkuhn_ebb_org 's blog post about it: https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2018/aug/30/big-tent/

Challenges in Maintaining A Big Tent for Software Freedom
      from Software Freedom Conservancy
In recent weeks, I've been involved with a complex internal discussion by a major software freedom project about a desire to take a stance on social justice issues other than software freedom. In the discussion, many different people came forward with various issues that matter to them, including vegetarianism, diversity, and speech censorship, wondering how that software freedom project should handle other social justices causes that are not software freedom. This week, (separate and fully unrelated) another project, called Lerna, publicly had a similar debate. The issues involved are challenging, and it deserves careful consideration regardless of how the issue is raised.

At the ice rink this morning and there is a young figure skater training here who has a bag with her innitials on it. SJW.

Perhaps she is the one. She will grow up to destroy classical power structures. It is in her name.

The Trump administration is accusing hundreds, and possibly thousands, of Hispanics along the U.S.-Mexican border of using fraudulent birth certificates since they were babies, and it is undertaking a widespread crackdown on their citizenship.

Just listening to someone explaining that because a link is "https" you can only go to it if it is sent to you directly in an email. So therefore, secure.

Security is hard, but we're clearly not educating people on what they need to know.

    • Ya favorite tho(ugh)t

@Are0h I think you're taking the opportunity to try and mock people for their lack of understanding instead of using as a point where they have a small window into that world, and may be willing to work on solving the problem with you.

Use it to build and help people grow instead of trying to tear them down.

    • paperdigits

@paperdigits @popey if you know the file you can find out what package it is in with "dpkg -S" so in this case:

    $ dpkg -S `locate glib-2.0.pc`
    libglib2.0-dev:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/glib-2.0.pc

So you'll need libglib2.0-dev in your build-packages list.

Do you have a build log of what's failing?

@freakazoid Sony didn't put my phone on the list for the latest Android update. Kinda in the same boat. Not sure what I want to do. Generally speaking the phone is fine, but I don't really want to be in a situation of not getting security updates.

@WelshPixie it is all based on GPS traces submitted by the community, but it's unclear what the licensing is on them... so I guess I don't know. Seems like since they're suggesting you could download the traces they're okay with it, but you'd want something more definite.

I guess you'll have to e-mail them. Real shame they don't provide licensing info up-front.
