Collection of articles about gun violence in America. I find especially interesting the idea that gun rights effectively lower the value of freedom of speech. โ https://kottke.org/18/05/the-united-states-of-guns-4
@HerraBRE best Aikido move I've ever done is manipulating a toddler onto a toilet while he was refusing. Got him there before he realized what was happening.
@HerraBRE it sounds like you're thinking about them as packaging formats, which they are, but that's not the most interesting part. The biggest change is converting to a confinement model for your application. It puts a lot of pressure on developers for a huge user win, though developers get wins too in a more direct access to their users.
For instance, you can make a snap from a deb really easily. But it may not work.
Also, I don't expect my next Ubuntu desktop to be able to install debs.
@gingerrroot I see what you're saying from the mental health perspective, but I think that the phrase is also used to describe people doing it for political or marketing reasons.
They clearly need to be separated as one is a cause for concern and the other is just trying to become famous for the wrong reasons.
I just learned that the #Debian#Gitlab instance is not limited to the Debian project but open for any Free Software project. In case you are looking for a (new) home, I think Debian is a great place to be. https://salsa.debian.org
@freakazoid@cwebber I'm interested, and curious how a highway project in DFW is going to go with regards to that.
Basically they like a company to make the big upfront investment, and get money for tolls for 30 years, but then they have to give the highway back to the state. The contract also has requirements on the maintenance and quality over that time.
It makes me nervous, but it seems like the gov't did all the right stuff.
@freakazoid@cwebber no, I mean "managed like" it is a department of the local city like Parks & Rec or the Fire department. Sure, they could hire private contractors to do work as needed but the leadership would be city employees.
