Perhaps "roundtables" is a step up from "thoughts and prayers," but not a very big one.
Another failure to do anything actionable about gun violence.

Got a form from my son's school asking for his birthday; month, day and year. And then "Age on Birthday".
Isn't that always zero?
Surprised when I went to Torchy's for lunch that their Bacon Bourbon Marmalade is 1,077 Calories for an ounce.
https://torchystacos.com/food/tipsy-chick/
Turns out, I checked, and that's only about 1/50th as much energy per ounce as rocket fuel.

In the spirit of the "Moscow Mitch" nickname I feel like we need to repurpose the "In Soviet Russia" meme for the Senate.
In the Senate, Mitch says that YOU'RE the racist.
@Pixley will that end up in the URL when it is in the archive?
Curious if there is going to be abnormally high number of Google search results pointing to that book.
Spent some time in Denton, TX and was looking for places to eat. Quite enjoyed the reviews on this bakery. 🤨
Another man made beach being planned for the DFW area. Soon Dallas is gonna have more beachfront than LA! — https://www.dallasnews.com/news/rowlett/2019/08/09/surfs-wave-pool-crystal-lagoon-among-plans-unveiled-town-hall-new-1b-rowlett-development
My son's baseball coach wants to start practice one and a half hours before sundown.
Here I thought iCal was over-complicated; turns out it isn't complicated enough.
@mairin I don't think there's a built in feature, but there are several tools out there to do it.
I have this bookmarked but haven't used it yet: https://github.com/hughrun/ephemetoot
@chuck it is hard because most setups using k8s today are microservices, as that's what it manages well.
For a performance example let's say you had a database setup with an append only datastructure in memory. You could have analysis of that database doing stream processing directly on the memory. This is how SQLite works in smaller desktop examples.
You could also put larger things like LibreOffice with it's HTML backend as a service.
@chuck there are coordinated workloads that aren't efficient over RPC. And the fact that Docker can't run systemd makes it difficult to set those up in a reliable manner in a Docker container.
So it would be nice to have a way to build a set of services that work together using something like shared memory that could deploy in k8s clusters.
@n8 The Internet
@chuck woah. I'm not sure if I like this or think it is pure evil. Definitely one of those.
@tinker great!
As you want to diversify your investment I'm a big fan of robo-investors. Make it so you're not in just one area of the market, but then do all the rebalancing and everything for you.
Something to think about as you start looking to build that up.
@n8 if the first packet doesn't make it through, say it LOUDER and S L O W E R.
@Sturmflut they keep claiming storage, but it seems like there are plenty of short routes that could be converted.
There are several flights a day between Dallas and Houston, not a large fuel requirement there.
Probably really comes down to resistance to change. Aviation is a pretty conservative industry.
The section on Pascal's wager at the end of this article is a good way to understand the choices of dealing with Climate Change. Hopefully more companies start to realize they shouldn't wait for regulations to be written before getting started on planning for them. Governments move slow, but if you're not ready you'll be in an impossible situation. And, for the case of Climate Change, on an unlivable planet. — https://www.npr.org/2019/07/15/736565697/giant-shipper-bets-big-on-ending-its-carbon-emissions-will-it-pay-off?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=news
@Are0h it is time. You need a lawn to protect and defend from children.
Yes! I didn't realize the straight ticket ballots in Texas got removed, excited about this. More opportunities for candidates that don't fit in little presized boxes. — https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2019/07/15/straight-ticket-voting-gone-texas-house-ballot-races-hang-balance
@welshpixie wow, written by the same person who wrote Killing Eve. It'll probably be a way above average Bond film.
