I feel like people are more friendly and open to engaging with each other here to such a degree that it is disorienting to look back at corporate social media and think about how much everyone is being gaslighted into thinking the feeling of isolation, lack of control and addiction is an immutable part of human interaction online, not a consequence of bad design and lack of actual human moderation

Nah around where I live you aren't a local if you dont verbally describe directions referencing only places and businesses that no longer exist as landmarks.

I am not claiming it is efficient but it is a violation of local culture to do otherwise.

I am glad that I keep coming back to this place not just for ideological reasons but also because I just have more interesting and friendly interactions here than I do in other internet places.

I think the whole concept of influencers is a natural extension of corporations becoming so powerful that they put an overbearing pressure on people to turn themselves into advertisements lest they be shunned by the social landscape around them.

I didnt mean to come off as aggressive there, I just mean that I think that without knowing anything beyond a cursory understanding of buddhism I have a terrible chance of finding anything good

Thank you, meditation is one of those things I am interested in but have no confidence whatsoever that I could wade through the miles of superificial trash western interpretations of to find something of value I could connect with.

I know people make fun of ASMR stuff, and a lot of it is ridiculous but sometimes when someone near me is doing something mildly repetitive in a calm focused fashion it feels amazing. I get all tingly in my scalp and relaxed.
