@Nerdcoresteve i'm not all about patching guilt. we should absolutely feel guilty, because if we don't, then we might just forget about everything and become too comfortable.

i've lived with guilt, while supposedly not being able to do anything. all it did was keep me focused on how i do in fact need to do something when i can.

we can never be too comfortable in a world in this current state

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr so much land and so many resources exist on this planet that i guarantee you we can share them all with everyone else and still have enough to live in luxury

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr you don't have to OWN land to build on it. you just have to make sure other people don't walk into your house and decide it's theirs.

and who's gonna want to do that if all the land is free, everyone can use it, and they can build their own house or find an existing empty one rather than fighting for ownership of an occupied dwelling?

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr "if we all stop owning land, someone will come by and take it all" doesn't work in a system where everyone agrees they shouldn't own land, because the person trying to take everything over will very quickly end up floating face-down in a lake somewhere before they get any power to even start taking things over.

nobody will want to give up agency and swear to serve someone in exchange for more of what they already have.

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr insisting that someone else will take it if you don't, is not only saying that you deserve it more than others, and projecting onto others that they will behave the same way you do, but also insisting that our natural state is to want to own land

ownership of land doesn't ensure our survival and is certainly not an instinct. it is something learned that can be unlearned.

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr people just want a place to live, their basic needs met, and whatever luxuries help them pass the time.

power and greed are only prevalent in societies where it's the only obvious way to stop yourself from being trampled by others.

in a society where you've already got everything you need, and have no reason to fear losing it (losing your income for example) then you have no reason to stockpile more than you'll need.

@a_breakin_glass @bhtooefr literally people can learn to share land and respect the privacy and personal space of others. it's something we're taught from a very early age.

and if people are allowed to protect themselves rather than relying on class traitors who are leashed to the ruling class to protect them, then you'd be surprised how little bad behaviour the average person will put up with.

@bhtooefr native americans wouldn't deport you...they're not white colonialist assholes. they wanted to share the land.

it was settlers who decided to take more than they needed, take control, and declare ownership over everything with weapons drawn.

it's the settlers that committed genocide when the natives tried to protect their homes from being taken over.

don't say "if we must have borders, then let's do it humanely"

borders are already inhumane. deportation is inhumane. excluding people from living where they please when they're not hurting anybody (and they actually make this shithole a better place), is disgusting

    we MUSTN'T have borders.

nobody owns land, settler colonialism is trash, we shouldn't be discussing how "humanely" we deport/exclude people when the simple existence of borders and land ownership is fucking barbaric and should be the main topic of discussion

we're just normalising borders if it's not even worth talking about how bad they are, and how they cause additional inhumane shit like this to happen in the first place.

@bhtooefr borders are an atrocity in the first place, nobody should own land, settler colonialism is fucking trash.

there's no point in discussing how humanely we do something that's inhumane to begin with. that just further normalises the underlying issue.

it's unfair! but it's also what we gotta do. because nobody else will do it for us. the ruling class has the means and yes, it SHOULD be their responsibility, but they also don't care. because they actively benefit from and actually want this shit to happen. so we gotta do it even though we're at a disadvantage.

a lot of us may struggle to thrive now but we'll struggle to live soon if we don't work together to do something.

we all have shit going on. a lot of us are just barely scraping by. that doesn't mean we can ignore all the shit going down because we're already uncomfortable. we gotta use up every last scrap of energy we have left over on fighting, because shit CAN and WILL get worse.

what about the people who are already dying or homeless, who literally do not have any extra energy, even for surviving? but they do it anyway. we gotta fight for them and for ourselves

that said, there are plenty of people out there who are like "yeah well i experience this small hardship and i'm scared so i'm not able to help out thanks"

the kind of people that think everyone else can deal with the hardships in society because they've got their own stuff going on

believe it or not, activism isn't easy and full of glamour. it's about doing more than you're expected, to help right the world where others won't. there's a deficit of direct action.

you gotta consider the context and consider who exactly the post mentions

i'm probably not asking you, a parent with a toddler, to drop out of society and become nomadic. i'm probably not asking someone who is barely able to get out of bed in the morning thanks to mental health, to go join an anarchist commune.

these are ideas i'm spreading around for those who are capable of doing them! if you're already doing all you can, that's fine. i might be talking about others

i'd like to point out that if someone is calling the masses to action, they're probably not specifically talking about the people who absolutely can't participate.

there are plenty of people out there who CAN answer that call, but DON'T because they have the privilege to stand back and be comfortable, or maybe it just doesn't really occur to them, or even the people that usually do help might not be up to speed on current events

these posts aren't always meant for you

@profanessbm i guess. i don't really have to worry about it myself since i'm exceedingly careful with tech (have to be, i can't even afford to repair things myself) but yeah, these things are disgustingly designed on the inside.
