@Karneolius and i guess the big draw of a small town is the fact that it's removed from all that surveillance capitalism and heavy policing. if that dissolved, cities might start feeling more personal and open too

@Karneolius yeah that's a solid point. infrastructure is super important. transport and close proximity to resources are the big draws of living anywhere.
it's also nice to have a place that feels more open and personal, like a small town with lots of parks and fields and places to hang out that are relatively unpopulated. but that's more a want than a need.

@ratbaby in the server i run, we have a channel where we post things like spoilers and stuff, and we just have it set up so that there is at least someone online at all times that has the ability to clear it. all users need to do is ask

@ratbaby it might be good to clear it manually instead, especially considering an automated bot process might delete everything in the middle of someone's posting, or before they can get feedback if they want it

been trying the dailies in crypt of the necrodancer lately. i'm not good enough to get very far but i only play all zones mode anyway, and at least this way i have a chance to be on a leaderboard or something i guess.
no point in avoiding it because i "haven't had enough practise" considering there's no consequence for failure and it resets every day

even though i'm wary of marxists, i trust them more than most other political groups, and seeing them just kinda throw their weight around and making moderates uncomfortable is good and wholesome

@bhtooefr allow people to have equitable power to their oppressors and suddenly an even playing field helps to smooth out bigotry and create a more stable environment to live in. balance is the key; imbalance creates problems no matter who's in charge, no matter how nice they are.
i mean, shit, deportation was on the rise under obama, he was leading war efforts overseas and ordering drone strikes on people.
centralised power is the problem. bigotry is a symptom.

@bhtooefr even if we had racist communities under a communalist society, there would be people of colour leading anti-racist communities to keep them in check. and eventually, people might be scared out of displaying their bigotry publicly, until eventually it just vanishes.
in our current society, we have to hope to god that whoever's in charge imposes the precise right rules and regulations. and even then, there's no room for bending the law unless you hold power.

@bhtooefr you forget that this is already happening within our current society. the worst part is, all power is centralised, so white colonialist get to control the government and impose their rule and bigotry upon everyone else.
and nobody else is allowed the power to defend themselves or fight back. all power belongs to the state, and if you're an enemy of the state then you don't stand a chance.

@bhtooefr i don't believe human nature encourages bigotry. creating large-scale systems that put distance between us and those we rule over, or between us and the other folks that help maintain and provide for our communities, creates problems.
children do not display bigotry unless parroting/mirroring a parent's decisions. almost all the time it is some form of authority defining who we should hate, who we should be wary of, etc

@bhtooefr without a power structure through which to enforce bigotry systematically, it would be very difficult for bigotry to thrive beyond on a small scale.
and like, there is a significant problem with people all grouping with only the people that share things like race, gender, other such defining features.
but i believe we'd have a lot of people getting together based on interests/hobbies, ideas, and certain politics/governance, that would sorta encourage diversity

@cosine it's hard to really imagine that capitalism would work well if we look at it on paper, but there's some sort of uncanny line of thinking within the human brain that often leads people to uphold societies that they've grown used to/consider most ideal
if such a society existed, we would be doing backflips to explain how it's the only way to do things and keep things the way they are, just like people do now with authoritarian capitalism

@cosine -whole people aspect where in small towns under current society, we don't really know anyone, we disagree with or even hate the people we live around, we're forced to put up with bigots who never have to live close enough to other people to change their attitude...yeah

@cosine as a city person i think the small town life is more ideal if the people in that small town are relatable to you in some way, or at the very least you have the agency and freedom to move whenever and wherever you please to satisfy your needs.
the problem with small towns under our current society is lack of focus by politicians, lack of resources and funding thanks to everything being funneled into the big popular cities, lack of proper power to govern themselves, and of course the-
