Important note: #UBI is NOT socialism. It's a reactionary capitalism measure that's designed to keep capitalism from destroying itself. Socialism puts PEOPLE first instead of money. UBI just ensures capitalism survives.
@mhingston That was interesting. The move/live in a van was interesting. Basically, mobile cave living. Shrinking your life down so small and constantly moving so as not to be a target of capitalist predators nor their enforcement agencies presented as having the 'good life'.
@zulmlatu That come be overcome partially by a well written specific policy. When it's too broad, support fractures.
Think tanks write policy. So when an issue gets attention, there is something already in the pipeline. The left could mimic this. HR676 is an example with history behind it.
Strategy: wistful 4 the good 'ol segregationist days: “I’ve been around so long, I worked with James Eastland,” said Biden, referring to a segregationist...“the Democratic Party still had seven or eight old-fashioned Democratic segregationists. You’d get up & you’d argue...Then you’d go down and have lunch or dinner together. The political system worked. We were divided on issues, but the political system worked.”https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/10/06/back-on-the-trail-bidens-message-rankles-the-left/?utm_term=.4b85c1e95af7
@oletedstilts I'm with you. Don't call the cops over personality conflicts. Been around the poor also, it's a very stressful lifestyle and personal interactions have a different rhythm. Calling the police just increases the stress as there are so many petty laws that increase the burden of poverty.
The firm that commissioned the popular “Fearless Girl” statue in New York’s financial district has agreed to pay $5 million, mostly to settle claims that it discriminated against 305 top female employees by paying them less than men in the same positions.
@ultimape Drought area here too but no funded programs. There is the occasional green lawn (w/watered sidewalks) though the majority of people just stopped watering, a few put in veg gardens. We stripped lawn and put in a veg garden years ago so we were good to go. A short fad to spray brown lawns green is over.
Article:[Given the genuine severity of the Trump threat...why devote energy to picking over the virtue and solidarity signaling of the left? Quite simply because getting this kind of thinking wrong exacerbates the very inequality it seeks to counteract.]
2 competing philosophical debates. a. left criticizing the right leads to trumpism b. center-right liberals fending off left leads to trumpism.
Not just Murphy, also Mosychuk [“Susan Mosychuk was no better than [Murphy]. She wrote that memo to cover her butt," he continued. "I know, Marty. I know what these people are like. To call them creeps is an affront to creeps.”]...["It’s not like a private company where you have an HR department," ... "It was a culture of abuse and a culture of corruption. There really is no oversight."]
@BertL Tricks come in handy during rainy winters when no one wants to go out. Depends on the dog...some are outward focused, some people oriented. Say 'hello' and he'll raise his paw. 'Circle' is a right, 'spin' is a left.
Non verbals are fun. Just put a big move with a command, drop the command and make the movement smaller over time. Pinch left fingers, he sits. Pat your left leg, he heels. Spin your rt finger, he'll spin around and heel/sit.
I'm working on a new 'come'. 9He does a 'come heel' where he runs to my left side, sits and heels. He does a 'come fore' where he runs and downs in front of me.) We're trying a 'come round':sit, stay, I walk 20 feet or so, he's to come when called to my right side, circle behind me, sit on my left..... If there are no treats, he just barrels past me, wags his tail and bounces around.... bwahaha, you can't make me! #dogshttps://mastodon.social/media/m4Ck8FNXIO__F3Uw0eA
