    Getting a demo up and running is pretty easy IMO and other people have complimented me on making it easy.

    There's a "quickstart" section in the docs and there are multiple live demos in the repo.

    https://conversejs.org/docs/html/quickstart.html

    Converse can be used in various different ways and therefore has many configuration options which can be daunting to people.

    But it has IMO sane defaults.

    I'd be happy to hear suggestions on how to make it easier for people.

    Each generation or age has certain fashions wrt names and words

    When I was born, double-barrel names were in vogue.

    Certain uncommon names associated with older people used to be fashionable when they were born.

    Similarly, some lesser known words become popular for a while (until they're overused and lose their appeal).

    "Leverage" is one. Nowadays people leverage things, instead of just using them.

    Another one is "plethora".

    On the 30th of january the #XMPP community is organizing a development sprint focused on #UX and #UI in the XMPP ecosystem.

    XMPP is a long standing protocol for federated chat which in recent years underwent impressive technical modernization that brought the ecosystem modern mobile clients, cross device chat and end-to-end encryption based on Signal.

    The XMPP community organizes so-called sprints where developers gather from across Europe to work on the ecosystem.

    Even though the ecosystem saw many improvements in recent years, the UX across the ecosystem still leaves a lot to be desired. To begin addressing this, the next XMPP Sprint will be focused on UX and UI, particularly in regards to naming conventions.

    That is why we’d like to invite members of the open source design community to join us on the 30th of January in the offices of Open Source Publishing[1]. On february the 1st we will also do a smaller meetup in the margins of FOSDEM.

    If you already have an account on the XMPP network, join us in our Sprint chatroom:
    xmpp:xmpp-sprint@chat.cluxia.eu?join

    If you don’t, the room is also accessible without an account via:
    https://chat.cluxia.eu/anon/#xmpp-sprint

    @z428 @strypey

    Yes, I agree with that.

    There is the XSF (XMPP Standards Foundation), but they leave a lot to be desired and have very little interest in helping FOSS developers.

    In the interest of "impartiality" they don't want to help certain clients improve (which is something many people ask for... i.e. "lets focus on a few clients and make them better").

    In part because the XSF includes people building proprietary XMPP apps.

    So it appears as if a different foundation might be needed.

    @z428 @strypey

    I've heard this sentiment before multiple times, and I agree completely.

    This however means much, much more work and expertise that protocol (or client/server) developers don't necessarily have.

    There are very few UI and UX designers active in the FOSS world (relative to the amount of developers and to their involvement in proprietary software).

    IMO, it's not fair or realistic to expect devs to carry all this load.

    > But I dare to say a lot of the issues of #XMPP could be resolved if the community just focussed on some of these

    I'm not aware of anything that someone has complained about that the XMPP community doesn't know and for which there aren't people working on solutions.

    Many of these people are volunteers and spend their life energy and time on this massive task, without any compensation.

    And they're competing with multi-billion dollar companies.
