Have to say that TypeScript is starting to grow on me. I've initially dismissed it, mostly due to seeing it used to construct unnecessary abstractions and leading to over-engineered codebases. But used in the right amounts it brings some piece of mind when refactoring, which is a feeling I've never had when working with JavaScript.

Didn't take a look at the generated code yet though.

Last night I had yet another conversation with web devs about why it's not a good thing for "everyone to just use Chrome". This morning I wake up & see yet another Chrome-only site. I really think we have a problem. Pls let's try to fix this together, for the sake of the web ❤️

URL parsing and handling is finally threadsafe in gecko! I've wanted this for this for as long as I've been on the project. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/mozilla.dev.platform/zQiBvXzGtEs/M9RlL9fIAwAJ

Great talk from Jake Archibald about how the browser event loop works. This stuff can be really hard to grok, but his visualizations are great. https://youtu.be/cCOL7MC4Pl0

@zack My understanding is that if you don't comply you can't operate in EU. Not really enforceable in cases like Mastodon, where the administrator is usually a private person, but it is pretty serious if you are a business.

@aral Haven't followed through, but isn't this the version that some users reported messing with permissions [1]? 5.7.1 seems to have fixed the issue [2], so maybe use that instead?

    1. Third party CSS is not safe
A few days ago there was a lot of chatter about a 'keylogger' built in CSS, but the real problem is thinking that third party content is 'safe'.

@baldur @nolan First impression is that it works but selectors are more verbose. Doesn't seem to get along nicely with the WebComponents polyfill though, so for this use-case it only supports Chrome currently 😞 https://toot.cafe/media/r3qbZ5m3dS4OJ_eSUtQ

@nolan @baldur I am curious how these solutions work with ShadowDOM. None of the accessibility extensions I've tried can pierce inside, and I don't have high hopes for these tools either.

    1. Your ‘Lite’ App Should Be Your Only App
      from Audacious Fox
I’ve noticed a trend: Twitter Lite: Today, we are rolling out Twitter Lite, a new mobile web experience which minimizes data usage, loads quickly on slower connections, is resilient on unreliable mobile networks, and takes up less than 1MB on your device. We also optimized it for speed, with up to 30% faster launch times as well as quicker navigation throughout Twitter. YouTube Go: the app is designed to be offline first and improve the experience of watching videos on a slower network; it gives you more control over data usage, by providing choice and transparency into the amount of data spent on streaming or saving videos....

The project seems understaffed though - two weeks and no reaction, not to mention that the pull request @nolan made in August for IntersectionObserver is still not merged
