Amazon Marketplace is harmful, episode 362
In the United States #Amazon has a contract with USPS, the national mail carrier. Last mile deliveries are performed by USPS, but not by regular postpersons. This status quirk enables Sunday/holiday deliveries that aren’t done by full-status postpersons.
On the other hand these Amazon-contracted sub-postpersons aren’t trusted with the postal key, a sesame to access mailboxes and package rooms in residential buildings throughout the city of New York.
In my building, this leads to Amazon packages being left in the hall, and apparently there has been enough package theft reports that the management company had to put up signs urging Amazon delivery people not to leave them the hall, but I believe they are paid way too low (as sub-postpersons) to comply with these rules that wouldn’t be needed if people didn’t order on Amazon in the first place.
CQFD.
-
I used to be a pacifist, but then I reluctantly admitted that violence or the threat of violence is unfortunately necessary to enforce any rule in a context where people can’t easily leave. Sure, most people will understand and comply with the rules, but you need something more drastic to prevent that one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch.

My 7 year-old kid said tonight that dentists are the OSHA team of the mouth and I’m here for this kind of jokes.
Of course he didn’t even realize it was one.
-
A pet peeve of mine is future statements about concepts that can only be evaluated a posteriori, like the "resilience" of someone before they experienced any significant hardship, or the "momentum" of a sports team in the middle of a competition.
Grr.
-
I’m not interested in investing in itself, I’m more interested in stopping paying for someone else’s mortgage or giving them free money if they’re done with it. And instead start paying my own mortgage because it feels more right.
Of course I’ve enjoyed the flexibility of renting as I have moved 6 times in the past 10 years, but as my social situation stabilizes, I feel like I should start thinking about it.
-
Oooh, rent to own, that's a neat concept. The plan is obviously not to scam anyone, I have no intention on building some sort of heritage for my kid. In the same way I haven't needed any from my parents, I expect my kid not to need any from me either. Of course this may change depending on his situation, but this is my current mindset.
-
I've been thinking about how rent is just paying someone else's mortgage, and while I agree with it, I was wondering how to escape the cycle. Buying a property to live in is one way, but then I might need to move for whatever reason. Can I screen buyers for people actually wanting to live in it? Or should I put for rent at a slashed rate, especially if I'm done with the mortgage?
I considered donating the property to the local municipality, but then I wouldn't have any guarantee it wouldn't be sold back to someone intending on becoming a rentier.
Of course I'm far from being even able to purchase any property, but it's something I've been giving some thought.

How much of the authoritarianism in socialist countries has been indirectly favored by the United States spending billions of dollars to destabilize said countries?
-
I actually have started writing a view joining the
contact and user-contact tables but there has been several questions about the fields (like uri-id and hidden) that prevented me to complete this task.
-
Yes, I get that but I'm trying to limit the scope of my changes given how extensive they already are. It can be changed in a different phase.
-
I don't have an issue with making it the main identifier for the contact entity, but I feel like it is a separate work from what I'm doing with removing the
uid != 0 rows. Since the uri-id row in the user-contact table is optional per the table definition, I'll continue to use the cid column as identifier for now.
-
No, because the
account-user-view doesn't query the user-contact table. So far I've been adding an additional query for this table in a couple places while I break the Contact module into separate classes.
So I should add the hidden field to the user-contact table?
-
Hi !Friendica Developers,
new question about the table user-contact. It seems that it is missing a field hidden to, I quote, "hide this contact from the others". Is this intentional or an overlook?
-
Hi !Friendica Developers,
new question about the user-contact table, what is the purpose of the uri-id field? Can it be different from the foreign contact table record? Should it be provided instead of cid to create or retrieve user-contact rows?

Someone from there posted a sarcastic meme on my post about this Jewish frathouse Torah being destroyed, went to see their profile, they were boosting Catholic priest rapes apologists and sexist anti-abortion opinions from the same den.
Blocked instantly.
-
I don’t think you should engage with them on that subject, I know their ideology too well to know it won’t move the needle at all. Christianism (Catholicism in this instance) is a symbol before being a coherent set of beliefs, and it isn’t a coherent set of beliefs either.
My parents are Catholics and yet the exact opposite of these online hate spreaders.

Yesterday, @˗ˏˋ wakest ˎˊ˗ gave me a compelling alternate narrative for #NFT as patronage rather than speculation vessel or multi-level marketing scam. Patrons pay for the art to be made but it can still be published publicly. Unlike Patreon, artists don’t have to hide anything behind a paywall.
Granted, it isn’t the most popular narrative, both in volume of money exchanged and in volume of interest on social media, but it has a faint redeeming quality to it that I enjoy.
-
Hi !Friendica Developers, still at it to remove contact rows with
uid != 0, I had a question about the self field, can it be just replaced with rel = SELF from the user-contact table? Or is there something I'm missing about this field?
-
It isn't the first time, and it always is a blast.
