Someone kept a giant metal tub filled with liquid arsenic around, covered in dry ice to prevent it from evaporating into deadly fumes, in order to, and I quote, "make him feel alive", end of quotation. @˗ˏˋ wakest ˎˊ˗ can tell you more about this character who apparently lived on the edge in more ways than one.
From what I understand the contact needs to be added first before any mail can be retrieve from them. What do you mean the contact is added when we receive a mail from that contact?
Tobias said that you just need to input your mailbox credentials and it creates contacts when you receive an email from them. It sounds like what we do for Twitter but twitter has a regular periodic synchronization task that doesn’t depend on any specific contact.
Or is it the other way around, you manually add email contacts once you set up your mailbox credentials and then only the emails from the added contacts are imported?
Spent the evening in town with @˗ˏˋ wakest ˎˊ˗ hearing about the wildest characters out of their childhood commune, between the drug kingpin exiled in Nepal, the arsenic tub owner and the newfound Nazi who moved to Slovenia to find "his Aryan roots". No dull moment!
Thank you for the added information. I was considering keeping private contact rows (uid != 0) without an associated public row for mail contacts only but it won't work.
This seems to be importing all the emails for a specific email contact, but how are they created in the first place since Tobias said you need to receive an email from them first?
This is the opposite of other contacts where the contact URL has to be entered and then they can be followed or stop being followed which doesn’t apply to mail contacts. Additionally, mail contacts can’t follow back, they will only receive posts that is personally addressed to them.
Last but not least, mail contacts aren’t meant to be shared between Friendica users through a public record.
Thank you for the workflow description though, it helped me figure out exactly how these contacts are different.
I'm in the process of eliminating the "private" contact table rows in favor of the user-contact table and I found an exception for mail contacts. I'm unfamiliar with how mail contacts are treated and I'd need a crash course in how they are created, what are the interactions Friendica can have with them and how content is fetched for them.
♲ @lingerie_addict@twitter.com: What is one thing that when you learned it, changed your perspective forever?
Mine was learning that many of the gadgets I saw on late night TV commercials were made with disabled people in mind, but had to marketed to abled folks as well to stay in business.
