@LWFlouisa @saxnot Eh, I'll note that that's simply not efficient. Someone who specializes in making dresses can do so way faster, better, and cheaper than someone who doesn't. :/

@Miku Eh, most versions abandon anything that looks even remotely like capitalism, and I think that's a mistake. :/

@h Some companies would be charged with investigating and reporting on other companies to make sure they're not getting up to any funny business, and some would even be charged with maintenance of the system as a whole - finding gaps and funding new companies to fill them, Helping companies fund new investments in infrastructure, helping them find markets or suppliers, etc, etc.

@h Oh yes, this would be just part of the system. I'm thinking some kind of a federated open source system, where anyone could set up a company to do X, right? But there are culturally enforced limits to how big and what you can do in pursuit of X. And How much of the proceeds you can take, etc, etc.

@saxnot Mmm, yes... But we CAN control what happens to work. It's not going to be easy, but I think it is possible. :/

@LWFlouisa Now, I don't like the part where someone wins this game sets up a moat, or where they do their best to screw over their workers in the process, or where the majority of the gains are taken by one person, but the overall system has some potential.

@LWFlouisa Oh, more than that. Remember, capitalism is about competition for limited market share, usually by building capital (I.E. tools, factories, etc) and using that to produce things more cheaply or at better quality so that you can undercut your competition.

@LWFlouisa I wouldn't even call it capitalism - the actual goals are different. It's just some of the methods that would be similar. :/

I don't like the ethical justifications that people try and build around capitalism and it's processes and outcomes, but the actual underlying structure and mechanisms I actually find very fascinating, and think have a lot of potential, if they could just be structured right. :/
