@Modern_Industrial Mastodon does some of that, but not all of it, and not in the same way.

@Modern_Industrial Mastodon is a lot more like twitter to me. I think it would be nice to have something like Diaspora or FB to keep in touch with people -- where friends and relatives can post photos, have group discussions, and have a page for all their stuff.

I'm cancelling my FB account, but every time I go on there lately, I see people and things that I've missed. It would be nice to have all that, without the horrible things that FB is and does.

I'm considering firing up a new #Diaspora instance to serve the same sorts of purposes as FB, but without racism, data harvesting, or undermining of democracy.

Does anyone in the Mastodonoverse have thoughts, recommendations, or ideas on this?

A big question: is Diaspora currently the best technology / platform for what I'm looking to do?

I'm planning on opening the instance to friends and family at first, then *possibly* allowing others to create profiles there later on.

@transscribe When I was in a similar situation (but in peak trans denial), I used a weight gain supplement called Mutant Mass (really). That, with an active work-put regimen (P90X, running, and cycling) helped me put on about 10 pounds of lean muscle. I was still not big, but had the results I was looking for at the time -- it just wasn't really right for me as a then-closeted trans femme. 😄

@transscribe Yeah. That hashtag is not the right way to deal with toxic masculinity. Pre-judging everyone in an entire gender is wrong, even if it's men! 🙂

With all our effort, society will achieve more peace a better balance over time. Most of these conversations and progress will have to take place in real space, rather than online.

@transscribe Maybe after working out at the gym a lot, you could get huge muscles and then do whatever you want. 😄

@transscribe Very fair points. I think you might feel somewhat like I felt earlier in my transition when I was still using male washrooms, but looked pretty feminine. This is very hard sometimes.

I think, better safe than sorry. I would probably avoid taking a shower at this place. It's bullshit that you should have to do that, and maybe you don't have to. Yet again, better safe than sorry. 🙁

@transscribe That's a tricky one. I used to get very anxious (and still do a little).

So I, myself, would not have used a shower like that before / without bottom surgery. I would just be too uncomfortable and anxious. I would find somewhere else to shower. I'm not telling you to do this -- it's simply what I did because I couldn't manage any other way.

After bottom surgery, I don't care -- I just sashay where I need to go in the change room and try not to worry about it. 😄

@tessaracht @iliana Ya. There's always some shiny new things to tinker with and make life easier. It's one of the things I really like about this work. 😃

@tessaracht @iliana Weird. I guess the trouble you're having and I'm not having must be related to our employer's / customers' use cases or something.

I've had a really solid experience with CentOS over the years. I've never really had to do any patch work to get things to function properly.

At least we have lots of neat tools to manage these sorts of things with now. 🙂

Orwell would be amazed (but probably not surprised) see such obvious, direct, and brazen attempts at destroying people's understanding of truth.

@tessaracht @iliana Wow. I don't think I've run into that much before. I imagine it's happened to me a few times over the years but I can't really remember. I mostly use CentOS and Fedora, and am responsible for a small hand-full of Debian / Ubuntu machines.

I find the Red Hat family of distributions to have excellent quality all around, myself, including the packages. I really like the system.

Which distro have you had all that trouble on?
