They make a very good case for replacing the word Socialism with Progressivism, since what most people selling socialism (Sanders, AOC, etc) are selling doesn't match either the historical, European, or the concept most Americans think of when they hear the term.

Okay so here's one reason why words can matter
We use words not just for their literal meaning in a text, but also for meta-level signalling to others
So if someone uses "faggot" or the n-word as a slur, depending on context, the main thing that they might be doing is testing the waters with regard to whether others will tolerate hate, and depending on the response they get, escalating it

Here in Canada, we're supposed to use spaces to avoid confusion with French or English decimal markers. But actual use of spaces is very rare.
