@fgraver@lauraritchie@dadegroot My dedicated talented friend is still in shock. I think she is starting to feel that those around her who haven’t lost their jobs are at a loss for words when it comes to her.
This is a quick reminder that all of the A Whale's Lantern music, made by wonderful Mastodon musicians in random pairs, is available at https://awhaleslantern.bandcamp.com/
@lauraritchie@dadegroot It seems to be a contagion, this treating people like business problems to be fixed.
But it actually makes less sense from a business perspective than you’d think. Our workplaces run on goodwill. We are throwing out the thing that actually makes us work.
Things are really tough at work. Someone we all love has been made redundant in a big restructure. A small, tightly-knit team is rocked with grief. There seems no point to it. She is walking through the workplace dazed.
There's no good ending to this. It's the way work is unravelling, and humans are being thrown out of workplaces where they are cherished.
"All my friends are here," she said to me, stunned. It's been 25 years.
I pulled over. We all did. Without a second thought. You hear those sirens. You see those flashing lights. You know one day it could be for you. For someone you love. And you hope.
Today, though, maybe it’s for someone else. Like...
The emergency vehicles scream by. And here he comes, following. The Opportunist. The Slipstreamer. First behind them. Cannoning along the path they cleared.
Introduced the concept of a PLN to my new A Level class this morning. I presented it as something that you don't have a choice about. Everybody has one. Be it your parents, teachers and classmates, the Internet at large, social media services. It simply exists. The question is are you aware of it and can you influence or build it to serve your purposes? And how might you do that? Mastodon? Twitter? Newspapers? Journals? Will be interesting to see how they respond
Hey Fediverse, is there a way to use a script or something to get Git to push changes on a computer's shutdown or something?
I've had to split one of my blog post drafts because I forgot to push changes on my home computer last night, but I want to check the image embeds in it on my laptop. I doubt I can remotely access it either; I don't have any of the info I'd need, and I can't get it either.
@qui_oui Believe me, I was also thinking: chainsaw. I couldn’t fathom his determination to be at my table. Now I know and my table is covered in leaflets.
Here’s the thing. He discovered the West Papuan crisis on the internet. He was compelled to act so he went to the guy who prints his tree business fridge magnets and got a huge pile of leaflets made at his own expense to give to his tree-lopping customers.
