There are other platforms that don't stream video that I get requests to host and I also don't accept it. I am a single person running 2 independent online businesses, I am ok with the work I have today :)
@Phaserune I haven't really thought about it. I would have to test the platform and see if that was even viable but I have several other priorities and in the near future will not have the time to look at other platforms.
@nh I have not had the time to fully look into PeerTube. I will need to do testing and understand the platform, to see if that is viable but currently I need to focus on what I have in hands.
@lightdark@schlink in my experience the costs depends greatly on the usage. I have single user instances that require more resources to run, than instances with thousands of users. Things like federation relays and number of followers/following can greatly influence the resources needed. That is why I changed the pricing structure. Still I believe that the old plans/pricing gives a good idea on the average costs per user https://masto.host/old-pricing/ (self-host could should be similar to that)
@moiety yep, no changes for subscriptions that started before December 30 and in that case both plans continue to be available, meaning an instance can upgrade, downgrade using both new and old plans.
@mawr Unless there is a bug, Mastodon has the code in place to stop retrying, I remember seeing it in the source code. Just not sure how many retries or for how long, I am on my phone right now, so itβs hard to look that up but I can look into that later if you canβt find the command to run.
@mawr In theory Mastodon will stop retrying after multiple fails.
I am not aware of any command line to do that, still if you want to send me the instructions I can look into it.
Still, your plan will not change unless you request it. The plan you subscribed will be active for as long as you remain and you can even downgrade and upgrade to the old plans/pricing. So, the new plans are 100% optional for you.
@lyrium So, if you keep an eye on new or intense volume, according to what you are saying I think your instance will be ok with the Base and at any time you can upgrade if you feel that is not enough but really is up to you how much "room to spare" you want.
@lyrium Well, to stay exactly like you are today in terms of resources available you would need one extra. Still, if it was working fine with the current resources while there was a peak in usage, probably the base plan now that things have calmed down will be ok.
The issue is always how much you want to have to spare for situations like, you get 100 new users that are really active. 100 is not a lot but it can make a difference if they are really active, importing followers, etc.
@lyrium it's normal to reach the top edge, it can happen for non priority activities or be an issue if it affected the timeline, still if you see it not always on the top it shouldn't be an issue.
No problem at all, and there is a lot I also don't know but we keep learning :)
