It's new years eve and I'm thinking that if I can write 500 words/hr, I can meet my self-imposed deadline and be proud of myself as I move into the new year.

I'm very conscious that this either means I'm doing things right, or doing things very, very wrong.

And that eating chips and drinking wine will either really help or really hinder me in achieving this goal -that I don't care, which point to the fact that maybe I am in fact doing something right... Happy new years eve everyone!

@ShorterPearson There is nothing wrong with shutting out comfort sometimes. The truth is sometimes the world is a shitty place and we just need to scream that truth at the top of our lungs! And look for something to smash.

I have a Hell Ya! I'm angry post that I might need to re-read and will share upon request. I'm also open to group smashing things this holiday season if you are interested.

During a holiday when I continue to be reminded to take one day at a time, today was a good day. And for that I am thankful. #thinkingsmall

@Miffy I completely agree (and also think the same is true for non-fiction and general small talk topics.

@clhendricksbc It’s so strange contrasting the last few days before Christmas at unit last year and my current job. Today looked pretty much like every other day except we ordered in Chinese food for lunch together. Most folks still came in, ate and left within 30-40 minutes. It’s interesting how different work cultures are.

@jillybobww If you find anyone who can sleep train cats, please do be sure to share. But are you sure they don;t just turn the lights out so that the owners get bored & leave?

I took a trip to my work library today and found training manuals from 1986 that were really well written but looked brand new.

I thought about the person who documented all the wear and tear that happens over the life of a railway when it was brand and the instructor who likely questioned the utility of training such things.

Then I thought about how happy I was to find it on a shelf 31 years later because, as it turns out, 'maintenance free' lasts about 30 years. #smallstories

@Damage so glad you are feeling better! Supporting a loved one who needs daily meds I’ve set an alarm to confirm they’ve been taken. Missing only a day can cause so many problems. I guess at least we know the meds are doing their job!

@Triplefox Carrying them to the box is a big part of the work.

On more than one occasion I have written a stack of Christmas cards only to have them still sitting in a pile on a table, and then in a drawer until spring and then.... well...

I am stalling on writing a paper on 'research methods' for my doctoral program, but reading this thread is helping give words to my thoughts and is providing the courage to go in the 'right' direction (which in my world is inevitably upstream).

A community I can think with. At a scale I can live with. A place where being away is noticed, but understood and accepted. A space to restore and recharge, to remember and reflect on the things that really matter.

@katebowles I went back to my (old) house last week to meet the renters. I had little emotion about leaving the house, but sudden pangs hit me when I looked at the apple tree, the poorly placed pine tree right beside it, the magnolia that didn't die, and the raspberries transplanted from my grandma's garden. Thinking of those who might enjoy them after us makes it better somehow - Thank you.
