2 days ago: audio is leaked saying that zuckerberg is extremely mad over the democratic candidates trying to push for breaking up facebook
6 hours ago: facebook quietly changes policy about false and misleading info, saying political ads are no longer fact-checked. at about the same time Trump begins to put up false and misleading ads
it's no longer "the algorithm", social media is being intentionally manipulated to push for political situations where the rich stay in power
Generations in the US go, more or less (There is always debate):
GI (greatest) Generation
"Silent" Generation (25-45)
Boomers (1946-1964); these were the Baby Boom that started when GIs got back from WWII
Gen 13/Genx - 1965 - 1979 I first encountered this as "The Thirteenth Generation" (which is a book of Slackers era) but Copeland's book got more traction.
Millennials - 1980 to 2000
And people are still figuring out Gen Z/etc., just in time for another gen.
I am amazed. My Kobo Touch, which I bought factory reconditioned but is basically a 2011 device *just got a firmware update yesterday*. And it can't just be one that was queued up waiting for years, because it's the *second* one since I got it last month.
This is one of my favorite #gothtober posts. I bought this album (My Big Hero) in 1998 on the spooky end of Decatur Street in New Orleans. It wasn't even a record store, just some store had some CDs on a table out in front. It has a fantastic "King in Yellow" decadent vibe to it.
@grainloom Well, not actually accidentally. I bought an e-ink e-book reader, and use it more than I expected to, and that use would probably be in competition with my ure of a tablet.
@panina I'm told that the habit of calling people "man" (hey, man; check this out, man) comes from Black jazz musicians in the 1920s. They started calling each other "man" because they were tired of white people calling them "boy", and the usage spread out from there.
