@banjofox @deadsuperhero I've seen you calling it "Mastodon protocol", and I don't really like it. In my mind, it's a "reasonable subset of ActivityPub, compatible with Mastodon".

I wonder if I should run a Diaspora pod with terms and conditions typical of a Mastodon instance code of conduct.

@banjofox L)ast B)oost.
I wish people would do their LBs as a reply to what they're boosting (stripping the mention) in order to make it easy to find what it refers to.

I keep thinking about this article.

@gannet I'll have to work to get a handle on that (probably have to create a Dreamwidth account).
I do know that we will need the same kind of commenting controls as Dreamwidth, which I've heard about before (since drive-by commenting by randos and relatives-of-friends is a big problem on Facebook).

And based on that need, it ought to be impossible to directly connect two aspects of the same person.
I do need to think about the sock-puppet potential of this and how to mitigate it.

@charlag Those screenshots are too small for me to read, but basically the point is that the UI is the same?

It seems to me that (many) people would like to present substantially different selves to people in different parts of their lives, not just different subsets of their posts (though that's helpful, and it's nice that #diaspora foregrounds that feature).
But I'm thinking eg trans people who are not out full time might want different names and avatars to be seen by different aspects, etc.

It looks to me that #Diaspora aspects work basically like G+ circles, is that correct?
That is to say, you have a singular profile, but you post to particular aspects to control whomst sees particular posts. And you can filter your timeline by aspect.
When someone adds you to one of their aspects, they only get your public posts, unless you add them to an aspect.
But your aspects are basically one identity, and your control over sharing profile info is basically on/off. Right?

@emsenn Yeah, I think it is too professionally-oriented. I'm more concerned with personal presentation-of-self, and with abuse/harassment issues.

Would anyone be willing to talk about having multiple identities/aspects/personas in social media, and how a social media application could facilitate that?

So, here's a pretty neat collection of trans/queer/women fronted/centric DIY hardcore/punk bands.
