Please repeat/boost this post if possible as I'd like to make connections with developers in Tokyo, if possible.Thank you. ❤️
I will be moving to Japan on a spousal visa which restricts me to work only 28h per week.
I'm an embedded systems and IoT developer with C, C++, ASM experience as well as personal projects in C++, Rust and OpenGL.
As I am looking for a job in Tokyo in a semi-western startup/small company, would anyone hire a more "part-time" worker? Thank you very much for any info.

@sim Hey. I've had a few hours of complete serenity now and I feel like I desperately need to extend that time. I think I'll probably take a bath as well. Hope that's alright. We'll stay in touch. I'm sorry. Just trying to deal with burnout
The first step I took for my mental health months ago was to start manifesting the things I had control over. If I was anxious about missing something, eating foods that were going to cause inflmannatuion, going to the gym etc, I'd take proactive steps that would actually help me turning these things into a habit. Eventually these anxiety sources disappeared in a way and I reconditioned myself to believe in my ability and willpower to take care of myself on my own, and to trust my own actions
Keeping an organized diary/journaling like this is actually very useful for mental health. I also doodle sometimes. Some of the doodles are very beautiful, some of them are anxious and scared. Sometimes I write down the dreams I saw and illustrate the imagery, and found some correlations with my fears and the re-occuring dreams.
I have a thick diary/book with blank sheets on my desk that I've periodically filled out by writing down "everything that causes anxiety" and categorizing these things into "things I have control over", "things I can't control".
It's incredibly interesting to look back at these entries and see what has improved, changed, disappeared completely or remained the same. It's a very powerful experience to write these thoughts down as well. I should really turn it into a habit.
rest of the world: apocalypse, burning down
fedi: everyone is being nice to each other and having wholesome fun
I'd like to encourage everyone to apply more to different dev jobs because I even got an offer for a senior dev position etc and all non governmental places don't seem to care about degrees at all, at least in my current experience
It truly was a confidence boost tbh
I'm not an OOP fan. I like C a lot, functional langs, etc. I don't care what language you're using. But make sure to use it right, and not mix your C with C++ like it's the same language. If you're using C++, do it right. Likewise with C or anything else.
If you're new to the fediverse and reading this, I urge you to ignore any drama and understand that there are various people using both software, Mastodon and Pleroma. And as for the latter, there are more incredibly interesting, intelligent, curious people on there. If you just listen to the drama and gossip you might miss out on meeting interesting people.
Of course, that might not be your goal, but engaging in drama anyway is always a huge waste of time - make up your mind yourself.
@ivesen I might change it later....
if you're a dude, you're automatically ultra gay
just not long ago, dudes "created beauty', liked flowers and perfume, wore tights and fancy shoes, appreciated other men's beauty, wrote poetry and talked about their feelings all the time, wore wigs.. all of that is gay
A really good talk by Catherine West on game engine/game dev in Rust.

I love the story of how Linus met his wife, from wiki:
"Linus Torvalds is married to Tove Torvalds (née Monni)—a six-time Finnish national karate champion—whom he first met in the autumn of 1993. Linus was running introductory computer laboratory exercises for students and instructed the course attendees to send him an e-mail as a test, to which Tove responded with an e-mail asking for a date."
I want the future to be #solarpunk, not cyberpunk. Although still technologically and scientifically advanced, but everything we need for a healthy and wholesome lifestyle is self-sufficient and "holistic".
We've been trying to maintain a garden and veggie field every summer now, apart from work and other stuff. Eventually you get into the routine. All veggies and fruit are homegrown and there's a lot of them left for selling.
This is a small part of the garden.
I made a meme in Green Is My Pepper.
