I was trying out #Wire a month ago after it was brought up at our https://kwvoip.ca/ meeting. It has a huge, bloated client, and a fairly inactive user community. Great if you want to have a short video conference at an appointed time, not so good to have running in the background just in case some buddy wants to say "Hi". I'm no longer running it. !XMPP is still a better solution for me. If someone wants to experiment with #Wire contact me via !XMPP to set up a session :-) xmpp:bjonkman@sobac.com
!GNUsocial does something like that now, at least in the version I'm running (1.2.0-beta5). It's not perfect by any means. I still miss a lot of messages from people that that I'm not subscribed to directly, but @firehose subscribes to.
