   !Friendica Admins Last night I coded a small script that enables Friendica servers to serve Bluesky handles.

   To explain: In Bluesky there are the PDS (Personal Data Storage), these are the servers where your data is located. Possibly in the future Friendica can serve as a PDS, but I haven't even started looking into that.

   Independent from where your PDS is, you can use a handle with every hostname that you have access to. So instead of some generic name like "handle.bsky.social" you can use your very own domain for that. For example I'm using "heluecht.pirati.ca" as a handle.

   With that small script that i coded, Friendica users can now use their Nickname as a handle. So each user will be able to use "nickname.yourfriendica.server" as handle.

   is there some interest in that script? Then I will release it in a few days, I think.

     It offers the CID of a user at a new location, so that you can tell Bluesky to use that instead. It doesn't automatically perform the update. But yes, it is independent from the used PDS. But especially when you host your own PDS, this might get handy.

   I got a very concerned phone call from N, a former co-worker. He tried to persuade me to stay with $EMPLOYER until I get a replacement job. I promised to consider his advice (after all, it is what I have always advised people to do), but I do not think I will change my mind.
   
   He talked about the group that he hired on with, and how half of them left and are now trying to return because they had nothing to keep them active. But I have no illusions about enjoying sitting in a rocking chair or going fishing every day. I already know that even if my financial needs were taken care of, I would still need to be productive.

    I see a headline saying that over 225,000 #ChatGPT user credentials are for sale. I have not read the article, so no idea whether this is from mass phishing or from breaking into #OpenAI's network.

    It seems Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett never collaborated on anything, not even a TV episode of something.

    On the one hand it seems odd, as they were active around the same time, and many readers are fans of both and note that their use of language and humor can be rather similar. On the other hand, where's the sense in collaborating with someone too similar to yourself?

    They didn't have quite the same outlook on life though. While both have a sort of positive nihilism to them, along with a powerful sense of the whimsy, Pratchett is more cheerful and angry, while Adams is more cynical and sarcastic. Maybe that could have made a collaboration interesting. Or disastrous.

    I'd like to kick those in favor of shifting the time twice a year right in the crotch. We can leave our time right where it is.
    
    My grandson (2, but will be 3 soon) had a meltdown because "it can't be bedtime, it is still daylight". He's not wrong. Just a couple of nights ago, bedtime was after sunset.

    I recently got to talk to my sister's kids #Honshu, #faveNephew, #PizzaMan, and #LG (three brothers and a sister, all in their 20s and 30s) in person. It was interesting that faveNephew and LG brought up the year I'd gotten tons of overtime, so I shipped each one a different model of tablet computer back when most people did not have such devices.
    
    PizzaMan, being the youngest male, was always the last to get anything. Even his younger sister got things before he did. So I sent his tablet first, a week or more before the next sibling's shipment.

      Neither the nephew formerly known as #lazyNephew nor his younger brother #Papaya were present for that discussion, but they did get tablet computers in the mail that Summer. My recollection is that Papaya was staying with my mom for some sort of youth empowerment training, so I shipped his tablet to the house ... and despite "signature required", the UPS driver left it in the driveway.
      
      When he returned home, his brother suddenly contacted me to ask whether he was getting one. I had already planned on visiting Jeremiah (employee at the Best Buy store ... I made sure that every sale went through him ... they weren't on commission, but that doesn't mean they don't keep track of how productive an employee is) after work the next day.

      At that time, #LG was staying at the house for the Summer, so I bought my mom the same model that she got. That way, LG could assist her grandmother.

    Für viele Muslime hat ja heute Ramadan angefangen, d.h. es darf von Sonnenaufgang bis Sonnenuntergang nicht gegessen und getrunken werden. Der Ramadan richtet sich nach dem Mondkalender, der kürzer als ein Jahr ist. D.h. Ramadan kann auch im Hochsommer oder im tiefsten Winter sein.

    In der Gegend, in der der Islam entstanden ist, ist das kein großer Unterschied, denn je weiter es in Richtung des Äquators geht, desto weniger schwankt ja die Tageslänge. Hier (oder noch weiter im Norden) sieht das schon bei weitem dramatischer aus. Zum Beispiel dauert der längste Tag in Hamburg etwa 17 Stunden. D.h. die Sonne geht dann kurz vor 5 auf und kurz vor 22 Uhr geht sie erst unter. Ramadan im Hochsommer ist also mit Sicherheit sehr anstrengend. So gesehen fällt Ramadan dieses Jahr in auf einen günstigen Zeitraum.

    Ich wünsche allen Muslimen, die Ramadan zelebrieren: "Ramadan Mubarak".
