An ActivityPub conference would be awesome.
I would go, would you?

.@mhall119 is developing an ethical alternative to #MeetUp called #GetTogether.
There's already a flagship site up and running:
https://gettogether.community/
The dev is working on #ActivityPub support and is requesting feedback on what more needs to be done:
https://github.com/GetTogetherComm/GetTogether/issues/60
If you're interested in helping federate GetTogether, join the discussion at the link above.
So hang on, all that recent #Federation / #activitypub development means that ultimately we'd have a kind of supercharged #RSS that allows us to have an account wherever we want and aggregate the remote microblogging + blogging + videos + pic thread + audio of the federated accounts/profiles/channels that we want?
Please say yes? #fediverse #pleroma #peertube #mastodon #funkwhale #pixelfed
So how can we get federation of custom emoji's between instances!? #EmojiPub #ActivityPub #AltUnicodePub
What Twitter, IG has done to developers & users, and YouTube has done to creators, is make a huge market for alternatives. We are already 10x better.
- No advertisements
- Chronological timelines
- Federation (no silos)
- No behavioural tracking
- Developer Friendly APIs
@lynnfoster and I developed the value accounting software with #Sensorica.
This https://docs.opencoopecosystem.net/ is a follow-on project that is currently looking at #activitypub for connections between people, organizations, and flocks of apps.
@wakest
indeep #plume looks great. And they also use #ActivityPub?
I started planning a new AP project, more info after @pixelfed is ready! #activitypub

@alexl What I know about federation protocols would fit on the back of my hand, but ... #GitPub is a pretty specific and uncommon use case, it's not suprising it needs a few extension to standard #ActivityPub vocab. But surely micro-posts don't need an AP extension, they are the core functionality of the whole standard! Also, why can't comments use the same data type as micro-posts?
Funkwhale Music, Pleroma Music, PeerTube Music.
Thanks #activitypub. #noSubscriptionRequired
@320x200 Yes, that's where I'm going to. I would use the #pixelfed interface to browse a feed of photos, a #peertube interface for videos, etc. So should we build a generic #activitypub backend then? Or just very specialized ones? I like how #peertube is using #mastodon for commenting and staring videos. But afaik Pixelfed is implementing these functionalities natively. And I'm not even mentioning that Mastodon does image and video hosting itself too. Aren't we reinventing the wheel every time?
@minds
...but also of course this:
#ActivityPub is free software. No permission needed.
ppl can disagree as much as they like with how #minds is designed, but you're as free as anyone to use it to federate.
Still others will be free same as you, to block any instance they wish, for any reason they choose.
Ok so out of stuff using #ActivityPub, #Mastodon replaces Twitter, #Pixelfed replaces Instagram, #PeerTube replaces YouTube. What is there that replaces SoundCloud? #askMastodon
@alanz @Antanicus @alcinnz I've been aware of #Twister for a while but haven't got around to testing it. Figuring out a way to bridge between that and the #ActivityPub #fediverse would be an intriguing experiment in testing out some of these concepts in practice :;)
@bhaugen I'm confused. Do you mean their own instance of an #ActivityPub app? Or their own AP app? Or their own standard like AP (I'm guessing you don't mean that ;)
@bob @0x3F @alexl #NomadicIdentity is powerful but complicated. My suspicion is that the group drafting #ActivityPub didn't think they could get it out the door while it was still relevant if they tried to shoehorn in next-level features like that. Remember that AP, like XMPP, is written as an extensible standard, so it may be possible to write an extension to provide for nomadic identity. If it was easier to implement, I suspect more projects would.
Imagining a world where #Matrix has become the standard for most communication systems and #ActivityPub is central to all publication/expression platforms. Everyone is familiar again with the concept of localpart and provider domain, the idea of global usernames or even phone numbers is now a distant ghost. A distributed and privacy-friendly discovery system exists across those platforms. Content producers are either supported globally or retributed through the various federations. It is 2025.
@0x3F @0x3F #RiseUp.net used to offer multiple web clients for their mail server (#SquirrelMail and #Imp). Their #webmail login page had a set of login/ password fields for each client they offered, but that was years ago, and it could be done now with a drop-down that allows users to choose the web UI for that session, defaulting to the one they used on last login. There are many pros to an instance landing page being separate from the #ActivityPub app.
@0x3F I hope to see all the existing apps properly implement the server>client part of the #ActivityPub spec. That way, instances can choose the back-end they prefer, and offer their users a choice of clients, so they can have the UI they prefer (and try new ones out) without having to constantly set up and keep track on new accounts.
