@0x3F I hope to see all the existing apps properly implement the server>client part of the #ActivityPub spec. That way, instances can choose the back-end they prefer, and offer their users a choice of clients, so they can have the UI they prefer (and try new ones out) without having to constantly set up and keep track on new accounts.
@feonixrift archiveofourown.org looks like a great alternative to #DeviantArt. I really like the fact they make an effort to make at least the basic usable without JS. Do you know if they have any intention to implement #ActivityPub?
@sullybiker@lnxw48a1 if the @gme#GNUSocial folks implement the full #ActivityPub stack (server>client as well as server>server), it wouldn't too hard to use a GNU Social backend with the #Mastodon web client (for those who like it). But I suspect a lot of the folks on Masto just don't know there are alternatives: https://the-federation.info/
Another upcoming #activitypub project, #prismo, is a federated link aggregation app. This could replace Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters. Looking forward to this. @prismo
@gme I'm keen to try my hand at self-hosting at some point, but I'm waiting for the dust to settle on the first wave of #ActivityPub roll-outs. Ideally all the projects will do full AP API support, so any #WebClient can be used with any #BackEnd. Then I can choose the UI I like, *and* the most efficient back-end for my needs.
Some people have started working on #"GitPub is a #decentralized#federation protocol based on the W3C's #ActivityPub, which extends #ActivityStream 2.0. It provides a server to server API for pull request, #forking and subscription of repositories provided by #Git web services."
@maloki for the same reason, I'd also point out that instance admins also have the option to switch their site to a different app that supports #ActivityPub#ForkOff. The inter-app federation means you're not stuck with #Mastodon, which like the free code license, also protects communities from #LockIn (" Like-in not lock-in!" Dan from GroupServer)
So, who has started working on an #ActivityPub#ActivityStreams federation protocol for #git pull requests, forking, issue tracking, identity/membership/permissions, following, etc?
@Elizafox "ageing and dying GNUSocial" people keep saying stuff like this, but #GNUSocial is in active dev and have plans to roll out #ActivityPub by the end of the year. What gives?
This release includes some bug fixes and enhancements, like hashtag autocomplete, automatic installations, terms of service module and translation updates. You'll find more information and a full changelog here https://friendi.ca/2018/06/01/friendica-2018-05-released.
