@wakest OK. I'm interested because I'm pondering self-hosting my blog so I can have #ActivityPub powered commenting. Willing to consider any option, but that sounds far from ideal ;)
“The first time I saw Peertube and Mastodon federating I was nearly hopping up and down with excitement. ” — @cwebber in interview made by @deadsuperhero
Just published an interview with @cwebber , one of my very favorite people in this space. We have had the honor of eating sushi and burritos together at various times.
Open source federated #activitypub (same federated protocol that @MastodonProject@twitter.com uses) based photo sharing site in the works at https://pixelfed.org/. This looks very promising!
Cool. There's a new #activitypub platform for blogging called #plume, meant to be an alternative to #medium. This could be a pretty big deal, because it means orgs can go all in on the #fediverse. They can have a #mastodon/#pleroma acct for quick communication and host their blog on plume instead of medium and all of it will federate, so users can choose how to follow and communicate with them.
Hey, question for people who have written their own #ActivityPub implementations: where did you start exactly? Did you begin with defining the inbox / outbox endpoints and some piece of logic for Actor objects?
However I don't think they've implemented #ActivityPub yet.
Also, check my history, there was a discussion of #Hubzilla, which I was interested in for this purpose - it already implements #ActivityPub (and a bunch of other federated protocols).
Q. Let the users decide what they see, not the instance owners.
A. #activitypub implementations (mastodon) are federated client-server networks. Files/messages are stored on central servers were the admins and sysamins are legally responsible. If the user's are in charge they could get the Admins thrown in jail for infringing content. A "trust" based network.
Full P2P would give you choices you wont... mastodon etc are "step away" projects. Building "trust" networks is a positive first step.
Anyone poked at how #ActivityPub#federation between things like #mastodon and things like #peertube works or might work? Is there any point in following between one kind of server and the other kind? Or do I need to different identities?
