Good morning, Prague! Fourth day of #IETF104 https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/104/

For me, today, the "key rollover" session (should we change the #DNSSEC key of the #DNS root zone every year, to make it an unnoticeable event?) https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/104/materials/agenda-104-ksk-00 and HRPC (Human Rights and Protocol Considerations) https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/104/materials/agenda-104-hrpc-05

Upcoming DNSSEC key rollover – how to check your Turris Omnia's knot resolver:

    – connect to your Turris Omnia using SSH
    – enter '# cat /etc/root.keys | grep "KeyTag:20326"'

If you see the key, no further action is required. All modern resolvers follow the process defined in RFC 5011 to update their root keys automatically.

Dough is a WIP #opensource #DoH (#DNS Queries over HTTPS) server built to the IETF spec written in #Elixir. I have Firefox #TRR configured to use it instead of Cloudflare.

Still have some QoL changes to make before I suggest everyone uses it; configuration options, bin releases, etc.

I'd love to get folks to try it and ensure it works beyond the Arch machines I have it on.

Some extra info in the README

What if for a #community powered #DNS over HTTPS (#DoH) solution, we threw a loadbalancer / proxy server in front that gets quorum for queries before returning.

So it would reach out to multiple DoH servers simultaneously in a pool, then cache a quorum result.

This way, if any bad actors behind the DNS LB that are running on DoH or trying to hijack results -- their results are not returned, only ones the proxy gets consensus with.

    🤔

Anyone out there in the fediverse have any experience with this alternative DNS network called https://www.opennic.org/? It seems like a great idea — I'm just curious how many people actually use it. I registered some domains on Namecoin's blockchain DNS a while ago, but I doubt it was ever worth the money I paid.

Even so, I'm highly tempted to nab myself a .gopher domain :P

DNS is the protocol that makes the web work. It's how we convert easy to remember names like facebook.com into hard to remember IP addresses like 157.240.1.35 and others. Without it, the web wouldn't work but DNS has a problem, it's not secure. The Problem DNS

"Cloudflare claims it will be “the Internet’s fastest, privacy-first consumer DNS service.” While OpenDNS and Google DNS both exist, #Cloudflare is focusing heavily on the privacy aspect of its own DNS service with a promise to wipe all logs of #DNS queries within 24 hours."

    Thoughts?
