    This depends on what you want to do with it. Besides, #friendica can federate with #diaspora. That means if you have an account on one of these platforms, you can follow/subscribe to people who are using the other platform. That way, you technically have access to the whole federation of diaspora and friendica. The rest depends on your personal choices and the look & feel, user interfaces etc. Just give it a try and compare.

    There's been an on-going call to revive RSS over the past year or so, and I feel like I've seen half a dozen articles and posts just in the last week. It's a fantastic idea. Without it I can't follow particular people on Instagram, Twitter, and other sites where I don't have accounts. Those sites just want to lock their users in — it's anti-human empire-building, so screw 'em.

    Pro tip: I found a self-hosted thing called https://github.com/RSS-Bridge/rss-bridge, which lets you create RSS feeds for sites that don't provide one. I'm trying it out and loving it. AFAIK Mastodon isn't quite there yet, but Friendica lets you follow RSS feeds and now my friends' posts on Instagram are just a normal part of my timeline.

    Das ist doch toll: Die re:publica 2018 findet dieser Tage statt und wenn die Riege der Vortragenden so durchschaut (https://18.re-publica.com/de/speakers) fällt sehr häufig die Begrifflichkeit "Aktivist / Aktivistin".

    Wird denn aber auch kritisch beleuchtet wie sehr #Datenschutz, #Sicherheit und #Freiheitsrechte immer weiter ausgehöhlt worden sind? Löblich: Eine Frau Katharina Nocun redete schon mehrfach über die Nutzung dezentraler Systeme. Nur schaut auf ihren Blog (http://kattascha.de/) ist dort wenig zu sehen von #Diaspora, #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #GNUsocial, #Mastodon, #Libertree, #MediaGoblin, #Pleroma und Anderen. Nein dort werden deutlichst nur #Facebook, #Twitter und #Instagram als Interaktionsmöglichkeiten angeboten.

    Und wieso zelebriert man das Ganze weiter, von Jahr zu Jahr? Netzpolitik.org in allen Ehren, aber wäre es nicht auch dort im Interesse die dezentralen Systeme nach vorne zu bringen? Schaut man sich dann einzelne Artikel mit den Kontaktinformationen der jeweiligen Autoren an: Wiederum das gleiche Bild wie auch bei Frau Nocun. Was möchte man da besprechen? Die "digitale Gesellschaft"? So einfach wie simpel: Ihr macht es euch zu einfach und wer nicht will, der hat auch schon. Letztendlich lebt man da sorgenfrei mit dem Credo "Wasser predigen, aber Wein saufen!" schlicht wie einfach weiter. Und genau deswegen ist das auch nur eine Veranstaltung mit großteils nur Lippenbekenntnissen. Letztendlich nochmals die Fragestellung: Wird beleuchtet wie dezentral die "digitale Gesellschaft" sein müsste, um überhaupt Schritt halten zu können und sich selbst auch verteidigen zu können, wehrhaft demokratisch zu sein? Einfache Antwort: Leider NEIN! #republica-2018 #Gedanken #Meinung

    Friendica Video Kurz-Tutorials

    Ich habe angefangen kleine Kurz Tutorials für Friendica und lade sie (zur Zeit nur) auf Youtube hoch. Die Idee dahinter ist Menschen zu helfen, die gerade frisch bei Friendica angekommen sind und viielleicht nicht so die technische Expertise haben, oder ganz einfach komplett andere Oberflächen gewohnt sind. Zum Einen soll es eine Hilfe sein und zum Anderen auch ein bisschen die Funktionen vorstellen. Weitere Videoportale (Peertube, Vimeo) sollen noch dazu kommen.

    Ohne Schnickschnack und "Hallo ihr lieben", oder 20 minütige Intros. 😀
    Kurz, knapp, knacikig und hoffentlich sauber erklärt, was man vorhat und wie man da hin kommt.

    Ich hoffe, ich animiere den Einen oder die Andere dazu auch mal den einen oder anderen Screencast zu produzieren. Gerne auch die selben Themen in einer anderen Sprache oder einfach nur besser gemacht;)

    you know, it doesn't matter if we use #pleroma or #gnusocial or #friendica or #mastodon etc. (are there more we can connect with?). the important thing is that we can communicate with each other. therefore we should rejoice over every additional server that springs into life, no matter what software it runs. whenever the media hypes something that is part of the #fediverse, it's good for all of us. but maybe we need a new name for the whole thing? I feel like "fediverse" doesn't cut it.
