Thanks to the #RedditMigration and #redditBlackOut the "flagship" instances of #lemmy and #kbin have been experiencign the "hug of death" #DdOS If you have the ability to spin up an instance to help out, please do. Alternatively get folks to register for smaller instances like lemmy.ca fedi.io feddit.de and even ones that ar e primarily in languages other than your own fedia.io/
yet another example of why #friendica is so much better than mastodon. This is the last post in a long thread about #Reddit charging for API access. They are like the 30th person to recommend #Lemmy, which is super noticeable here since #friendica does proper status #threading, but it sure isn't clear on #Mastodon, particularly depending which user in the thread you #follow.
♲ @deadsuperhero@social.treehouse.systems: that's just so insane to me. Clients are a huge boon to platforms; pricing developers out is actively hostile to almost everyone.
If things go from worse to worst, maybe it might be worth considering building for the fediverse, kind of like what Tapbots is doing? There's a Reddit alternative called Lemmy that pretty much replaces most of Reddit's main functionality.
@clacke Maybe you should see whether #Friendica lets you turn off "direct messages" from non-mutuals. I think the wave of #spam is going to highlight how many settings default in the wrong direction.
I don't think the network is anywhere near ready to deal with organized spammers.
@clacke I didn't refollow. It could have been a periodic automatic reconfirmation, but as far as I know, those have never produced notifications before.
I do know that my now-deprecated #Libranet account could never follow this account properly. (There were multiple other irritations, some of which appear to be limitations of the #Friendica platform itself and others which may be localized on that particular server.)
Yes #itWorksLikeEmail but still I really don't understand how #friendica works. For example on this thread libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-1… the original post was sent to 103 remote servers, my friend digit@iviv.hu commented on it. My response to his comment was sent to 24 servers, but my response to my own comment was sent to 105 servers. I suspect him being on Diaspora* and most of my contacts being on platforms like #Mastodon than only support #ActivityPub has an influence here.
If I try to reference the same post from my Masto account, I thought it would look super weird, like I was talking to myself in a way that didn't make any sense, but I actually only see the OP https://hostux.social/@fu@libranet.de/109835482564374801 https://hostux.social/%C2%ABblock-4359556512123479765-0%C2%BB while when I search for my later comment I see it libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-2… and the comment of my own I was replying to, but not the OP !Friendica Support
♲ @Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social: If I am elected Mayor of Mastodon…
Touching butts (consensually) will not only be a right, it will be A CIVIC DUTY. If you cannot get to a butt to touch it, one will be made available for you. (not guaranteed)
In two weeks (4 & 5 February 2023) #FOSDEM will take place in #Brussels and I'm asking myself if we can have a #Friendica developers & community meeting there at some point over the weekend.
@Tobias I sent an email from my primary email address to a kill-the-newsletter inbox that creates a post in an RSS Feed that I set my Friendica account to automatically re-post. My email signature includes a link to [ur=http://friendi.ca]#Friendica[/url] I'm guessing that site is hosted by your Wordpress account, so somehow the automatic re-post included a "quote share" of @Tobias on Wordpress that included the Subject line of my email
♲ @fuat2mb@theres.life: i highly recommend checking out a few other services on the #fediverse to see if there is anything you like better, including #Friendica, #plemora, #soapbox, #GNUsocial etc. #mastadon is only part of the 'verse, and all of the above can still interact with your friends on Mastodon
