    FramaGit is a free Git hosting alternative that doesn't suck.

    @Framasoft are guys with good politics, and even though theirs is still a centralised server, and a self-hosted solution would be better (as long as you don't use MAGAFA servers or IP addresses) this is probably a second best option for small projects who don't know how to, or can't afford to handle their own Git web interface.

    @joeyh One option I do is upload my gits either to IPFS or Beaker Browser. I recently made my own Git repository on my own page in Beaker.

    What you'd do is have an iframe of source code to see what it contains, see if you can trust it, and then a download link to the tarball.

    And it would be decentralized as well.

    Happy to be #movingtoGitLab for now. Yes, I know about #IPFS and other decentralised options, and the risk of simply moving to yet another centralised business, but for the moment this is probably not a good choice for me because of (1) the extra work, (2) the loss of bells and whistles that #GitLab and #GitHub add on top of Git, (3) the fact that IPFS is still alpha, and (4 ) the requirement to still use something accessible for the wider public because I teach and interact with beginners.

    @funqr Definitiv, aber genau da sollte man ja dann ansetzen statt #Github nachzulaufen. Vielleicht könnte man insofern auch eine übergreifende Kontenverwaltung für verschiedene Applikationen anbieten? Also #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Diaspora und mehr. Das würde dann nochmals eine weitergehende Überwachung erschweren, vor allem wenn dann noch die dezentralisierte Anmelde-Tokenverwaltung beispielsweise Verschlüsselungsmethodiken anbietet.

    Und als Ergänzung liest man dann noch hier in den föderierten Netzwerken Beiträge, in denen sich die Nutzer Sorgen darüber machen wie viele Konten man anlegen müsste und das ja nun wirklich ein "Vorteil" von #Github. Ein Konto und man kann zu allerlei Projekten beitragen. Wie wäre es mit einer Gegenperspektive? Überlegen welches Projekt / welche Projekte man unterstützen möchte und sich dann einmal fokussieren? Oder geht es nur darum "Open-Source" als persönliche "Startplattform" zu nutzen? Na, dreimal dürfen wir dann raten. Tja, der liebe #Pragmatismus und die #Bequemlichkeit sind auch vollends in der quelloffenen Gemeinschaft angekommen. Aber es ist ja auch so dermaßen schlimm mehrere Konten zu haben und zu pflegen. Kleine Neuigkeit: Es kommt doch eher darauf an Wissen und Informationen zu teilen, werte Apologeten. ;-)

    @herrgnatz Genau das. Dennoch wird das warum auch immer verbissen verteidigt. Dabei wäre es doch probat: Ich würde sogar umgehend spenden, wenn #Hubzilla, #Friendica und Andere ein eigenes Repository auf dem verfügbaren Webauftritt anbieten! Allein die bereits vorherige Abhängigkeit zu #Github wurde bereits mehrfach kritisiert und es wurde nicht gehört. #Microsoft soll das aber nun halten und gar verbessern? Also da sollten "wir" oder zumindest Einige in der Open-Source-Gemeinde nochmals die Perspektive justieren. Das haben sie niemals getan! Im Gegenteil: Sie haben nun die gleiche Taktik unter dem Motto "We love Open-Source!" versteckt und gehen auf Einkaufstour.

    Ein Lobgesang auf die Übernahme von #Github seitens #Microsoft, zu finden in einem Artikel auf Golem.de. Und einmal mehr auch die #Marginalisierung eines deutlich immer weiter nach vorne gehobenen Problems: Abhängigkeit der Open-Source-Entwicklung von EINEM zentralisierten Dienst.

    Dabei ist es gleichsam traurig wie ulkig, wenn Software für dezentrale Netzwerke genau dort entwickelt werden. #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Mastodon, #Diaspora, #Libertree finden neben unglaublich vielen Anderen dort eine Beheimatung. Aber persönlich sehe ich das äußerst kritisch: Wie kann man bitte Dezentralität predigen aber dann genau Zentralisierung direkt oder auch indirekt weiter vorantreiben? Wasser predigen, aber Wein sprichwörtlichst saufen? Und der besagte Artikel beinhaltet unglaublich viele oberflächlich positive Aspekte, lässt aber vorzugsweise Elemente außer Acht oder erwähnt sie nur am Rande. Beispielsweise das nachfolgende Zitat:

    "Diese und unzählige andere Projekte leben schlicht von der Masse an Entwicklern auf und deren Gewöhnung an Github."

    Massenwirkungen sind aber kritisch zu betrachten und beileibe nicht immer nur von Vorteil. Im Gegenteil: Was bringt denn die migrierte Masse an Teilnehmern beispielsweise hier in föderierten Diensten? Mehr Oberflächlichkeit, mehr Konkurrenzdenke statt Kooperation, weil man ja maßgeblich dann um Gehör zu kämpfen scheint? Und vor allen Dingen: Übernahme proprietärer Quellen statt einen echten #Gegenpol zu erschaffen. Genau das zeigt dieses Zitat aber nicht!

    Ein anderes Zitat:

    "So bleibt Github wohl noch die kommenden Jahre der Quasi-Monopolist, der er seit Jahren schon ist. Und für jene, die dieses Spiel nicht mitmachen wollen, gibt es genügend Alternativen - für Microsoft aber nicht."

    Eine Prognose, die HOFFENTLICH nicht in Erfüllung geht. Allerdings ist meine persönliche Erwartungshaltung auch nicht sonderlich hoch. Dennoch: Wer jetzt wirklich noch in der Rückschau meint, dass #Microsoft nicht nur einfach die nächste Plünderung und Bereicherung seiner Selbst vorbereitet, sollte bitte nochmals die rückliegenden Strategien und Vorgehensweisen unter Betrachtung nehmen. Dieses Unternehmen vertritt durchweg propietäre Software und ist an einer Offenlegung nicht interessiert. Der Wurm kann auch nicht im Inneren des Huhns darüber referieren das System nun vermeintlich von "innen heraus" verändern zu wollen. Das hat in der Vergangenheit bereits nicht funktioniert und wird es auch zukünftig nicht - selbst wenn solche Apologeten wie der Artikel-Autor Anderes behaupten und von "Großem" schreiben. Groß für wen konkret? Bestimmt nicht für freie, quelloffene Software. #Stop-Playing-Bullshit #Move-Away-From-Github
