Hm, I miss on my #gnusocial instance one or the other toot from the mastodonic part of the Fediverse ... So far this seems to be a sporadic drop out. Has anyone had similar experiences?
@diogo well... video it's nice, your work in !gnusocial it's great and as many people here I really appreciate it!
The only matter it's that many people in GNU Social and free networks are here escaping of big corporations and specially Google... so I'm a little confused about it.
But please don't take it as a criticism. Just thoughts.
@dansup would be good to see the AP support finally rolled out though. Also, it would be great if all the folks still running #GNUsocial would make sure they are being represented in the stats. Having only 5 nodes listed on https://the-federation.info/ , for example, doesn't give an impression of a project in the prime of health ;) @clacke
@1iceloops123 that would require #GNUsocial to finish rolling out their AP support (AFAIK that hasn't dropped yet), and #Tusky and #Mastolab to implement to server>client part of the AP spec as well as the bespoke Masto/Pleroma API. @alice@lain
@dragnucs What you said about #OStatus is not really true. #GNU_Social downloads more than just 1 or 2 posts when I subscribe to people, and #Mastodon also does and it did long before they added #ActivityPub.
As for "Private" posts, GS used to have a private post mode (using advisory privacy) ... but it was removed because people thought it was really private, but it was leaky at best. And yes, the private posts were federated across #OStatus.
When I hear about all the "new" halfway-working things in #ActivityPub, almost all of them were tried and discarded in #StatusNet / #GNU_Social before #Mastodon existed.
@lj_writes I agree with Mike here, AP provides for many functions that aren't yet implemented across all the #fediverse apps, because they couldn't be federated under #OStatus (the older standard #Mastodon adopted from #StatusNet / #GNUsocial) or choices were made not to use them (eg groups in Mastodon). @mike can you recommend the DW crew a more general resource on implementing AP than the Mastodon one they are looking at?
Hey Mastodonians, #GNUSocial citizens and others! Gear up for tens of millions of Nextcloud users spread over several 100K servers who can now join the #fediverse in just one click!
@Michcioperz your comment about going beyond "instanceism" seems very sympatico with IndieWeb thinking. As I understand it their focus is federation between bespoke homepages, rather than using off-the-shelf packages like #GNUsocial or #Mastodon.
@diogo I stumbled upon your merge requests for !gnusocial and tested your script for removing remote files until a given date. I got a PHP Fatal error: Uncaught ServerException: [500]: No result found on File lookup., maybe the script should not assume the file is still present? https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/merge_requests/166
My dear @mmn, what is the current status of !gnusocial development? Bug reports are getting closer to 200 and there's a bunch of merge requests not answered.
