@nipos @vilbi @frank Sofern Unternehmen wie Xing oder Microsoft mit LinkedIn beschließen ActivityPub zu unterstützen und entsprechend ihre Nachrichten auch darüber verteilen, so wird das früher oder später Einzug halten. Dazu braucht es nur den Punkt der kritischen Masse überschreiten, wo es sich in den Augen der Konzerne lohnen wird. Daher bin ich beispielsweise durchaus auch initial gegen das Protokoll gewesen. Ja, keine Frage: Es gibt viele Eigenentwicklungen.
#Diaspora nutzt ein eigenes Protokoll, #Libertree kommuniziert gar über XMPP selbst. #Hubzilla und #Friendica haben für Vieles weitere Plugins wie auch eigene Protokolle. Aber die Vielfalt ist das was mich anspricht. Der Weg hinsichtlich ActivityPub ist sicherlich auch nicht schlecht, aber bringt eben auch einen Preis mit sich und der kann nach hinten losgehen. Und anhand mancher Reaktionen auf #Pixelfed habe ich Bedenken hinsichtlich eines Widerstands. Aber vielleicht irre ich mich und irgendwann ist die Schmerzgrenze erreicht? Wäre schön! -

@frank Mein Tipp: Schnellstmöglich diese Plattform verlassen und damit diese Gruppe ebenso. Gleiches kann man andernorts ebenso finden und die Argumentation bleibt in jedem Fall weiterhin zu hinterfragen. #Hubzilla oder #Friendica eignen sich weit besser! :) -

!Hubzilla Support Forum
I set up a new personal instance a couple of days ago on nearlyfreespeech.net.
Everything is working quite well, but I have a couple of questions. I'll try to ask these also over at nearlyfreespeech, but it's possible that someone here already has experience with these issues and can answer them.- how to set up file permissions to allow the web server to write, as is required by Hubzilla. Of course 777 works but isn't safe.
- how to make Wordpress allow crossposting from Hubzilla. It's denying authorization. (I have the hubzilla addon and filled in the login credentials.) This might also be about file permissions, this time with WP. (My blog is on the same server.)
- Hubzilla keeps logging me out, in an unpredictable way. Anything I can do about that?
- Does Hubzilla have an endless scroll addin or something for the activity feed? After loading the number of posts set in the settings (20 by default - I've raised that), I can't see any more.

I'm surprised how easy it was to install a personal hubzilla instance on nearlyfreespeech.net, and it seems to be working quite well. It's true that I stayed up half the night "working" on it, but that was mostly just about needing to research various issues so I wouldn't end up doing something wrong - things that to other people with more experience would have been plain-sailing. There are still a couple of things to sort out, like permissions, cron and theme changes. NFS.net limits cronjobs to once an hour, though, on the other hand, posts seem to be coming in more frequently than that, so I don't quite get it.
It took me a while to realize that people outside hubzilla need to be -resubscribed.
I might have some forum questions later, but till now, I didn't need to ask anybody's advise on anything. -

Mensch schade, aber tatsächlich wäre ich überrascht wenn es anders gelaufen wäre: Über #Diaspora bin ich gerade auf den Vorschlag mit der Bezeichnung #Minizilla gestoßen. Dabei handelt es sich um ein #Hubzilla, welches auf einem sog. Singleboard-System installiert und zur Verfügung gestellt wird.
Gut, blenden wir einmal initial die Konversation in dem Kommentarverlauf, wo schon wieder obligate Verweise auf Unabhängigkeit getätigt werden und in diesem Bezug allein die Hardware selbst schon dezidiert NICHT OFFEN ist.
Die Idee wiederum ist gut und ich denke einige Gedankengänge sind wirklich klasse. Ergo warum nicht das Ganze auf einem Board von PC-Engines beispielsweise betreiben? Das würde zumindest in Richtung offener Standards verlaufen. Nebenbei: KEIN Singleboard-System ist bis dato wirklich frei (https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers), auch nicht der Raspberry Pi. Nur schade, dass die im Beitrag hinterlegte URL schon wieder abgeschaltet worden ist bzw. nicht mehr erreichbar ohne weitere Zugriffsberechtigungen zu sein scheint. #Free-and-Libre #Ideen #Gedankenschnipsel

@aslmx @hay That's the point and it seems so that not #Mastodon is part of the #Fediverse. Instead the #Fediverse is part of #Mastodon for now and the time being. So we are also talking about stop talking to #Friendica, #Hubzilla and others. Being some kind of sarcastic! ;-) -

@toromino Stimmt auch wieder. Dennoch nutze ich das einmal, um mir #Hubzilla anzuschauen. Deswegen werde ich ganz bestimmt nicht aus den dezentralen Netzwerken verschwinden. :D Dazu mag ich den Austausch zu sehr und für alle Anderen bin ich dann die Nervensäge. -

Hmm, vielleicht einfach die Föderation von Beiträgen unterbinden, wenn diese zu lang sind? Stört ja offensichtlich Einige hier. :)
Alternativ schaue ich mir #Hubzilla an und mache die Instanz hier dicht. -

According to Hypolite Petovan (Hubzilla dev), when interviewed on FLOSS Weekly podcast last week, ActivityPub integration was on the roadmap but might take a couple of years.The intention was to make/keep #Hubzilla the most connected in the #Fediverse.

@jordila @strypey on the subject of !deskweb, I recently figured out that if I can set up a #Hubzilla hub (instance) on my own PC, and clone all my channels to a couple of other Hubzilla hubs, I can read and post on the #fediverse via the hub on my PC, using my browser. Hmmm ....

@z428 these are solvable problems. #Hubzilla allows full portability of accounts between hosts using the #NomadicIdentity aspect of their #Zot protocol.
At the moment we are using #fediverse 1.0. Once all the codebases have #ActivityPub support rolled out, and added all the features that makes available we will get to fediverse 2.0. Full portability of accounts between hosts will come with a fediverse 3.0, based on a protocol set that either extends AP or replaces it. -

I guess the missing feature for this are groups. @Gargron said some time ago that this is going to be one of the next feautures.But mastodon is not the fediverse. There are other plattforms such as #hubzilla or #friendica that have since long forums/groups.
Friendica and hubzilla both federate with mastodon.
For hubzilla there is also an hub running in africa

#hubzilla got a new plugin that intecreates a payment processor.
It allows to give supporters special access. Sofar there is only #paypal (meh), but maybe there can be some collaboration with @Liberapay in future?
