@trwnh
this is what zot, the protocol #hubzilla is running on does.
It stores contacts etc. as keypares.
You can move those keys to any server you want, and by that remain always connected. Incl. having the publishing setting etc. stored within a #nomadicidentity.
It is also supporting #OAuth to authenticate with other services/apps using that identity.
Also does hubzilla offer an infrastructure to deploy apps/plugins.

When?
@Digitalcourage
hi @gergely I've noticed you're working on federating events nice!
As I understood the federation of events won't be done through #iCal. What is the reason for that? Will it be compatible with ical?
In #hubzilla, events are federated via ical. Would be great having it compatible with the way #ActivityPub does it.
Meaning also, if there are compelling arguments for doing it as in ActivityPub, to switch to this aproach

We've moved to our own #HubZilla hub ... https://librenet.co.za is now an actual community platform and the informational website has been shifted to https://about.librenet.co.za
@Gargron @kavbojka @rysiek @nonlinear if an instance of most of the #fediverse apps disappears overnight, your only option is to open a new account on another instance, and start from scratch. With #Hubzilla you can use #NomadicIdentity to clone your channels across multiple instances, which will stay in sync, so if one goes down you just use another one.
A positive example how it can be done I found #hubzilla:
- plugin that user can turn on/off showing suggestions of whom to follow
- letting the user decide to not be suggested to others
- having a local searchable database where people can, if they want, be listed based on their interest, where they life...etc.
- it's everyones own decision if to be listed or not
- you can search within multible local database at the same time

At #hubzilla we have a follower suggestion plugin. And it's not so bad, because:
The user can turn it on or off when it is installed on their instance.
The user can also in detail define which parts of their profil/channel will be visable and to whom. If they don't want to be recomented to others, they can choose so
@maradydd @rysiek @webmind that sounds like a valuable project. If you were to use a #Hubzilla site for the calendar, we may be able to interact with it via #ActivityPub (follow the calendar channel, get notifications etc) as well as viewing it the usual way as a web page ...
@Michcioperz @Karneolius @Wolf480pl sure but #ActivityPub != Mastodon or just microblogging. It's also #Hubzilla (blogging), #PixelFed (photos), #PeerTube (videos), and hopefully soon #GitPub (code). Why not forums?
@wion @kensanata there are already #ActivityPub apps (compatible with #Mastodon), like #Hubzilla, which are intended for blogging, and don't have the headache-inducing, multi-column UI . Why not use one of those instead of trying to turn Mastodon into something it's not?
@jeff
#hubzilla, since with that you'll be able to comunicate with diaspora and all those other networks that use ActivityPub.
@hoodieak
thx the offer. I can understand you. My reasoning wasn't based on how it effects me individually, since I can also use tor or vpn.
thought it's just in gernal nice to have content visable via pages that don't track.
If you're poor (speaking economicaly, I'm poor as fuck) there're also blogs hosted by collectives such as the noblogs.org.
Something that I personly use for blogging is #hubzilla.
so aparently #compast is blocking anticapitalist.party
but at least, since the fediverse is federated, ppl can choose a new instance to life in, just as
@Angle did with their new acc now on withcraft.cafe
The only practical issue is, that the made connections can't be taken to a new server.
#hubzilla has solved that through their #nomadicidentity. There you can just upload your entire acc. incl all made connections (that support nomadic identity) to any server you desire.
@webmind @wakest I really hope the #Diaspora team come around on this. #Zot, the native protocol of #Hubzilla is totally incompatible with #ActivityPub, yet they manage to federate with AP.
@falgn0n
do you know who's the dev behind #AndHub the app for #hubzilla? I'd like to follow them to gain updates in my stream.
@gergely
openauth that get's enabled by the user through a single click, enabeling them to directly comment with their fediverse account.
thought people from #hubzilla have been working on something similiar. I don't know about the current status.
@macgirvin will know, in case it is of interest to you.
@mhall119
great news! Does ActivityPub supports CSV?
I'm wondering how the calendar/meetup function could federation with #friendica and #hubzilla @deadsuperhero
