Evil #google already did enough damage when removing http(s) from URLs because #mozilla then copied this behaviour, causing lots of bugs, inc. copy/paste errors. Now Google takes this breakage even further. https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=881410

#Mozilla begrudgingly implements tracking protection by default, after being shamed into it yet again by Safari, the DuckDuckGo browser, and Gnome Web (just the ones I know who implemented it first) and talks a good talk while still having Google as its default search engine and continuing to get hundreds of millions from Google/Alphabet, Inc. – the largest surveillance capitalist in the world. (Mozilla Corp is ~entirely funded by surveillance capitalism.)

    Hyprocrites.

#Mozilla will change the way your #Firefox looks up DNS records. They say it's to protect your privacy and thats even somehow true. They announced two different ways to handle DNS lookups:

The first one is DoH (DNS over HTTPS) wich makes a lot of sense, since it just encrypts the DNS lookups.

The other one is TRR (Trusted Recursive Resolver) & involves sending all Firefox users' DNS lookups to a private, US based tech firm: #Cloudflare.

Here's why this is a bad idea:

@alcinnz sounds cool. The #Trisquel community have been discussing browser options for some time, as we become increasingly disturbed by some of the stuff going on over at #Mozilla. Is Odysseus a fork of an existing browser, or built from scratch?

With a big sigh and as an addition to this previous comment: No this is no further "declaration of war" against #Mozilla. But what's the option? Choosing the lesser evil at last? That's the big problem while #Mozilla is explicit not listening. At any times when trying to spread more "love" again for the project and the foundation they do something really dumb. For example? Integration of DRM. Many more little points on the list and it's not about getting the people to use "Google Chrome". It's about really thinking WHAT the personal freedom is valuable and why we just can't do without more proprietary services in the end. Just dealing with the "lesser evil" is already the lazy compromise.

And there are more browser-projects done by independent groups and developers. Perhaps it is time we think about using them instead just some "big names" everybody is using?

For anyone else hyperventilating at the #Firefox testing of the new #IETF standard recommendation: #DoH

You might like to hear about options to still use DoH and NOT #Cloudflare #Mozilla is not about to introduce a Single Point of Failure. It's testing a new standard via one of the early adopting DNS providers.

    Anyways, here's a list of alternative DoH end-points! https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/DNS-over-HTTPS#publicly-available-servers

Well another discussion about #Privaxy and #Security is started regarding #Mozilla and the browser #Firefox. But what's the problem? The implementation of DNS over the protocol HTTPS but just with the usage of the company Cloudflare (more to read here: https://blog.ungleich.ch/en-us/cms/blog/2018/08/04/mozillas-new-dns-resolution-is-dangerous/).

And what's the point? Just another centralized aspect with all your visited content in your browser being accessible throughout Cloudflare and no further note where those data is saved in details and what parts exactly. Nothing to argument: The feature itself may be a good one. But not in this way and without further possibilities for configuration. And there is another example about this pragmatism in modern days: People argue that those configuration can be changed throughout "about:config". Sorry, what? Most users have never heard about these possibilities. So this is a lazy compromise. #Stop-Playing-Bullshit

Gervase Markham has died. A huge loss for the #FLOSS world.

Thank you Gerv for your tireless work for #FreeSoftware & #OpenSource by helping lead #Mozilla's mission in myriad ways.

As always, it is our task to take all that was beautiful, kind, and meaningful about him and weave it into the tapestry of our futures in such a manner to honor him and give added meaning to our lives.

Such is the nature of life, love, death, and life after loss.

As a #Mozilla Fellow, Hung attended 2017's #Mozfest and showcased her Data Selfies project with a weekend long GALLERY installation.

This shocking exploration of a social platform (where financial exchanges and messages are all in the open) finds users divulging some truly personal information. Fascinating data interactivity!
