    that's my point entirely. inaction *is* the correct action. if Pleroma or Mastodon block Gab, it plays straight into the con artists' narrative. they want people to believe Gab is the victim in all of this. we musn't play into making that believable.

    yes. the much larger problem is the scamming, not the political ideology.

    niche forks based around certain ideologies like Florence have different incentives and variables.

    projects like Pleroma and Mastodon and Misskey have to look at this from an ecosystem-wide viewpoint. and to us, playing into the Gab narrative simply makes no sense.

    and we are, aren't we? but we have to be concerned about the overall health of the ecosystem as a whole.

    the Gab problem is not the one Laurelai describes or you believe it to be. that is why we disagree on whether there is a Gab problem.

    in reality, it is far more twisted. the reality is that Gab wishes to use our collective work, the fediverse, as a shield for their own activities, which violate the T&Cs of app stores and so on. you do not see this as a problem, because you are looking at it from the perspective of being an individual user. this is not what is going on, however.

    what is going on is that Gab is trying to leverage our work and our ecosystem for their own personal profit.

    this would be mostly fine, except that their attempts at leveraging our ecosystem come with a bit of revisionism. namely, they want the fediverse to revolve around Gab, and Gab's services and Gab's cryptocoins, and Gab's stock, and whatever else. they are using our work to shore up their con. they aren't investing in the fediverse, they are using it like a sex worker on Switter.

    this does bring potential health issues to the ecosystem as a whole, and that's why it's important to have discussions about how to mitigate any potential harms to the ecosystem by this ongoing campaign.
