I guess it shouldn't be surprising, but I'm still surprised that even today internationalization is treated like a bolt-on thing as opposed to "first principles" in programming and data design.
I"m probably doing a poor job of articulating this, but it's just weird to me that all i18n approaches I find treat one language as "prime" and the rest as something secondary.
PSA: Content Warnings aren't self censorship, nor are they censorship of any sorts, if they were censorship it would mean no one could read/view the content even if they chose to.
My two cents: I moved all my repos from Github to Gitlab; it doesn’t solve all these problems, but it was super easy (about 100 repos in under an hour) and now I can keep working if they decide to die/fuck-up/etc.
I really like Fossil and even gave it a try, but I had a couple data-loosing fuck-ups (possibly my fault) that scared me away from it.
@cstanhope it could just be “beginner’s luck”, and maybe my next project won’t go so smoothly, but after this experience I think I quite like working with stuff like this :)
I totally agree, there are so many cool projects on that list and I've probably shot myself in the foot somewhat liking a bunch of them, but they are so damn cool :)
(3/3) Maybe things will suddenly pick-up near the end of the challenge, but right now if my project can even hold its place on the board it will make it into the finals I'll have the resources I need to finish my prototype and potentially build a second "release candidate" that will form the basis of a kit (which there seems to be some interest for).
This will dramatically accelerate my work and could be the starting point for my own computer company (hey, aim high right? 😁).
(2/3) If you haven't already, it would be super awesome of you to visit my project page and "like" it. This will require creating an account which I know is a pain, but you'd be doing me a big favor:
I know I've spammed you a lot lately about my entry in the 2018 Hackaday Prize, so this will be the last ask, I promise 😇
The challenge my project is competing in closes on Monday, April 23rd and the top 20 entries (based on "likes") will move-on to the finals and receive $1000. Currently my project is at #13 on the leaderboard:
