Agreed, once you're using the site, what happens to anything collected after that is under their control.

One secure place for your password is one of the primary advantages (consider how many accounts are exploited due to poor data handling on both the user and service side).

@vertigo I'm just happy to see people interested in/working on devices like this, I really miss the utility of purpose-driven hardware like the old palm.

I have a lot of notifications to get to. I'll have time for that tomorrow, but for now, here's a chilling nugget from the AWS documentation:

"AWS Lambda offers 1 million free executions"

@vertigo @neomoevius it’s funny you mention books, I was just thinking about producing printed manuals for #raiden (including schematics :) ) and how they would need to be binders so I could continually publish errata 😂

Working on a more thought-out post on this but I thought I'd get some feedback before diving too deep.

How about an Identity #coop ? A simple but solid #oauth identity provider that also advocates for it's inclusion as an idp to the services used by its members.

Convenience of single sign-on with the smallest possible security risk surface area and, being a co-op, members (users) decide what data is collected, shared, etc.

I have more but I'll stop here for now :)

@alienghic Obscurity is certainly a factor, but I disagree that cost/difficulty are limiting factors.

I think a lot of effort has gone into convincing people that they are incapable of owning & operating these services but it's nothing compared to some of the other systems people consider essential (automobiles, for example).

One of the big things I'm taking-away so far reading the platform #co-op book is that we really need a standards-based reputation/identity system.

I remember reading some protocol-level work on this a few years back when I was getting into #unhosted architectures.

Clearly something that demands a decentralized approach.

How do you feel about Rust (lang) for system/embedded/etc. programming?

Is it reasonable for targeting ARM, RISC-V, etc.?

I needed to brush-up my C skills to work on adding some features to this:

    https://github.com/martin-ger/esp_wifi_repeater

After a few attempts at using new materials, I found myself re-reading my ancient copy of K&R.

There's plenty of issues with that book, but working-through it with a modern computer feels akin to manipulating a fission reactor with your bare hands.

These machines have a lot of power when you don't waste it.

Of course I'd love to work full-time on #raiden so even at this early stage I think about how the project might facilitate that.

My initial thoughts follow the typical paths (kits, kickstarter, patreon, etc.) but reading "Ours to hack and own" has me wondering if there is a co-op approach to this.

I have a couple ideas but it's all pretty fuzzy. I'm wondering if any of the #coop folks here have any thoughts, or have seen something like this done before?
