Indeed, exciting times!
Related: I inched (millimetered?) closer to getting my chassis modules dialed-in over the weekend. Got some printer time and laser cutter lessons at a nearby hackerspace.
I've also secured the funds needed to procure the remaining components, so I may have a #raiden Mark II prototype running before the end of Q1 2018.

#Firefox Quantum is fast enough to make a graphical browser practical on my Pinebook. Even Mastodon is usable.

As someone whose first experience with computers was a SWTP 6800, the amount of capability packed into a $3 ESP8266 is surreal.

@dogtrax ...that said I also keep extensive personal notebooks but those are mostly drawing and short notes.
I'd love a way to effortlessly capture those electronically but every attempt I've made over the last few decades has problems.

@dogtrax That is a very good question.
For me I prefer writing electronically (as opposed to handwriting) if only because it's faster for me, plus I like the physical activity of it.
I do feel like sharing is better than keeping it to myself but I'm not exactly sure why. I'll have to think about that.

@jjg A big problem for the early evolution of the web (90s to ~2008) was the influence of thought-leaders who neither thought nor built.
People like Kevin Kelly, Chris Andersen, the Wired crowd, and their ilk absolutely dominated the discourse on The Web™.
They were really the only intellectuals that the people who built things read and their opinions were rambling, shallow, pseudo-libertarian, and, in very many cases, just plain wrong.
They're less popular now, thankfully.

@baldur gotcha, I was thinking about people at farther ends of the spectrum. I tried to ignore those guys (I was more interested in the freakier MONDO 2000 types :) )

@dogtrax So far I'm not deliberately sharing it (I don't want to feel responsible for directing anyone to read it :) ), that said I'm sure someone could find it if they tried.
I'll make a note of that hashtag though, sounds like a cool thing to read and if I happen to write anything I feel worth sharing I'll tag it.

@vertigo I was thinking about what a coincidence it is that we bumped into each other here. I was following your #Kestrel project a year or two ago and I may have interacted with you (if indirectly), but I don't think we had much formal contact.
Now to almost accidentally cross paths in an obscure system via people I've met here by chance, it's encouraging.
I don't want to get metaphysical but it's cool that forces like this may be at work :)

@baldur This is very thought-provoking.
There is a dynamic between the people who are good at thinking about things and the people who are good at building things that this illuminates. Sometimes these are the same people, but the nature of being extraordinary at one tends to undermine the ability to be extraordinary at the other (in some ways one activity negates the other).
I'm not advocating for one over the other, it's just interesting to think about.

I realized yesterday that I've been kind of down lately and tried to understand why and what I might do about it.
I apologize if this affected any of you.
One thing that came to mind is that I miss writing just for the joy of it. I enjoy the writing I do on my blog, but I try to make sure it's accurate and useful which is good, but it adds drag which means I don't do it frequently.
So I've started a new blog where I just bang-on for fun. I think this will help.

The Monoprice Mini Delta is a cool little printer and a hell of a deal at ~$150, but the noise it makes is a lot more unpleasant than my Cartesian #reprap.
At first I thought it was something wrong with my printer but after hearing a few other's machines it seem intrinsic to the design.

@vfrmedia @craigmaloney @nydel I wonder how hard it would be to add ssh-style public key auth to Mastodon?
