@ignitionigel I found one that will only cost $0.85/month for unlimited SMS. I'll likely try it soon. I'm just not looking forward to updating my phone number on all those sites that use SMS as 2FA.

@ignitionigel Yeah, I'm looking into VoIP options now. Maybe I'll be able to find one that's cheap enough for my needs.

@timapple Actually it seems that you need a US phone number to set up the service, so that wouldn't work out.

@timapple It seems like burner could work for me. Though, I don't really want to pay $5/mo just to keep the number active. I probably need it for like 5 texts per month.

@kev I'd probably have to set up a mailing list if I were to do that. I used to have an OwnCloud server set up with accounts for family members, but then I also had to troubleshoot issues they had with it and it became more of a headache than it was worth.

@kev How are you keeping in touch with family and friends that don't live near by? It's currently my main form of contact with family.

If I could get #Amazon #SES to stop sending me bounce messages for emails that were successfully delivered, and also stop repeatedly sending those same emails, I'd be very happy.

This has been my headache since I switched #servers like 3 weeks ago, and even 2 different server management services are stumped.

@joseph Not quite that cut and dry. Instances don't sync your profile (so you can't just set up shop elsewhere, like a cloud backup), but they do sync your toots for a certain time period.

You have the ability to download your profile from your instance, but not the ability to upload it elsewhere at this point. So you don't necessarily lose your data, but you do lose your presence when an instance closes.

Does that make sense?

@kev @norbert do you use the mobile app? I've been experiencing a bug that I reported the other day - silent disconnections requiring an app restart for me to be able to send messages again. It's not a major issue for me though.

My life is like 70% tech, 30% charity.
