@tobias That's really sad. I must have chatted with Tony over quite a few years on Friendica and Hubzilla. !Freedombone uses a version of his StatExpire script to expire old fediverse posts and stop databases getting infeasibly large.
@mayel @charlag @antanicus @h @vertigo My feeling about technology at present is that there isn't any panacea and all systems have various levels of problems. "Security experts" (makes air quotes gesture) will often tell you that iOS is better because it has a secure enclave supposedly implemented in a better way than Android's full disk encryption. Even if that's true there are still other considerations, especially with different threat models.
My take is that Android is better, especially if you can use LineageOS and Fdroid. If you have that type of software setup then you're going to bypass a lot of the worst aspects of contemporary proprietary software.
@phryk @rhiaro A CoC on its own doesn't mean much. People have to be prepared to act upon it, and then there's the question of who is going to do that. If it's a special group of enforcers then this creates the potential for other abuses of power. It's a small scale version of the bigger problem of society.
There’s apparently a reliability bathtub curve for Mastodon instances. If it survived the first couple of months, it will survive the rest of the year. If it survived a year, it may only fall off if it’s a single-user instance or if there’s only a handful of users
Starting now the Berlin Wall has been down longer than it was up: Construction began 13-Aug-1961. Demolition began 9-Nov-1989. 10284 days. 5 January 2018 is 10284 days since the wall began coming down.
> Below, at last, now that the “unknown and unknowable” amount of time which was associated with the Revision 2.7.5 HDMI Review has passed, estimates can now be made until production (about six months)
