Power outage. The nice thing about running a server on a laptop or netbook is having integrated UPS, so that the chances of data corruption are minimal. -

Me trying to test a PR on YunoHost and end up reading part of the code I've never touch because it was doing bad debug output and then patching it and then... https://social.wxcafe.net/media/AmCq71tY90ZjEP-cv1I

On the plus side, if we're all in a simulation, looks increasingly likely we can break out.

@dotuser It would definitely look odd, but I think it would work. In conversation from social.freedombone.net permalink -

Seems appropriate today to remember that we're building things out of sand here.

Idea for anti-face detection camouflage. Paint blobs below your eyes which are about the same size and shape. Since most face detectors are looking for statistical distributions which appear something like eyes and nose this is bound to cause confusion.
Of course this will only work for detection based on static images. Passive or active stereo would defeat it.showerthoughts

I hear a lot "the internet was a mistake" or "computers were a mistake"
And I say it sometimes too
But I don't actually think that's true
I think they're a very flawed tool
But they're capable of both good and bad things
On one hand silicon valley, endless destructive capitalism, etc
On the other hand without the internet I'd think I was a freak, utterly alone in the worldIt's a tool
What matters is what we make of itIn conversation from octodon.social permalink Repeated by bob -

I think I'll deprecate fedwiki. It looks like an elaborate system with lots of plugins, but if there's no reasonably straightforward way for a user to authenticate and actually edit something then it's just not useful.
The basic problem here seems to be that they built a wiki, but assumed that authentication would always be someone else's problem, where someone else is always proprietary. In conversation from social.freedombone.net permalink -
