@celesteh Probably they're trying to cut the price by reducing the duration. If you're an average young person today the cost/benefit of higher education isn't really worth it, because you're likely to spend decades paying off the loans. If it's anything like the trends in the US then it's now pretty clear that the average person can't expect to better their standard of living through the university system - as was the case in previous decades, especially for baby boomers. The only chance of improving things now if you're not a one percenter is via political organization.
@antanicus @h @jjg This is an advantage because it means their concepts about things are superficial and so wouldn't stand up to any real scrutiny or test in reality. That doesn't mean that they can't cause short term damage though, like other reactionary mobs from history.
#34c3 I have been attending these events for decades now and I am astonished how supportive and self healing they are even in the face of being 100 times larger now. It may not all be good and among the 20k attendants are surely idiots and assholes that need to be acted upon.
But in my experience the majority of people are like sam: Interested in shaping this event in a positive, welcomming and constructive way. Usually without making a fuss about it.
@25519 And this is a key insight from long ago: the interests of Capital are not necessarily the same as the interests of people. Things which don't result in accumulation in a centralized way tend to be ignored by the Capital machine.
The problem with the idea of “respecting the office of President” is that it completely abstracts the thing that should be respected, which is the people, not a big desk on a plush carpet with a bald eagle on it. The office means nothing. A president should respect the people, and since they don’t? Maybe the office and the position are the problem.
Anyone want to watch a neural network fall flat on its face trying to make knitting patterns?
I just started a new project crowdsourcing knitting patterns. Once I have enough, I'll train a neural net and post the results to a Ravelry thread, asking for opinions on the neural net's progress.
